I’ve been making bedside water bottles for years but I don’t make them very often. They’re inspired by Mexican botellones—small clay water jugs with an accompanying cup which serves as a cover. Sometimes the cup has a handle. I’ve also discovered a Congolese version of the botellón. It’s such a simple and effective idea that it’s no surprise it would appear in multiple cultures. #pottery #ceramics #beautility

Does anyone have any idea of old publications (ideally ones on the internet archive), modern online communities that discuss media, or any other sources amongst the deaf community where I might find some discussion or writing or anything about how deaf folks felt about Tony, the deaf teen on season 9 of Dallas? Getting a recurring deaf character at all NOW is still rare, much less in the 80s, so I'd really like to know if there's any reactions preserved from that time or if there's any posts about it now from folks remembering it then. I'm about to scour places like reddit but it's like...I know where to go to find Dallas discussions I can search for discussion about deaf representation, I don't know where I might find general deaf community discussions new or old i could search for Dallas discussion.
My single user self hosted server doesn't have a ton of reach so boosts appreciated! I'm adding a few hashtags I found with some use too.

More and more programmers are writing retrospectives like this — and a huge THANK YOU to Elissa for doing so — where they discover that Programming Is Not Special.
It is particularly interesting to read this from a solo game developer who is both a programmer and an artist, who began by thinking the programing isn’t art, and discovered by an emotionally torturous process that it actually is.

Americans baffled by European reticence over air conditioning, part of it is that if it's used as "the solution" to a climate crisis then using AC can feel a bit like burying your head in the sand.
Meanwhile, most of the world cannot afford AC in any case and is going to suffer much much more due to the climate crisis than the US or Europe. So the AC "debate" is beside the point anyway. Fossil fuel use has to stop, there is no other solution that helps the whole world.

Britain is currently running on an electricity generation mix that is over 90% renewables. The amount generated is in fact 112% of demand and the rest is being exported. That means that, were it not for the need to currently keep gas running to provide frequency and voltage stability, the country could technically be running on wind, solar and a bit of hydro.
