Mr. Darcy is not having a good #caturday. Came in with a very swollen cheek. Must have had an encounter with a bee. Keeping an eye on him to make sure he doesn't require a trip to the vet. Our cats always seem to pick the most inconvenient days ($$$) to require vet attention so hoping the swelling subsides after a few hours.

This happens often enough that we've named it the changing of the guard. Mr. Darcy going out, Mr. Bingley coming in.

To give you some idea of the stupidity of Trump's ego, his fireworks display is going to launch 850,000 shells over 40 minutes.

That's 354 shells per second. They will be launched from 10 locations so that's still 35 per second from each location.

That's probably ten times what most shows shoot during the finale. Finales are an impressive way to end a show, but you lose the ability to admire the artistry of each shell.

It's going to be bright, it's going to be loud, but it's not going to be beautiful.

Reading about all the heat emergencies around the world, moving to cool Ferndale 26 years ago is looking like a very wise move.

@NorcalGma2 warned me that dahlias take forever to open, but really? 2 weeks of waiting? I'm glad it was worth the wait. This is the third time I've planted dahlias and the first time I've actually had one survive long enough to bloom. So, progress.

So how widespread was that #earthquake alarm that apparently was a false alarm?

A few moments of panic there.

This is the very first vehicle I bought, a 1979 Kawasaki KZ400. I purchased it new in October '79 and owned it for a few years before giving it to my brother for Christmas.

He rode it for a few years and then bought a bigger bike so it came back to me. I then gave it to my friend John so he could learn to ride, and after he bought a bigger bike, it again came back to me.

By that point it was pretty beat up, but I kept it, thinking someday when I'm retired I'd restore it. I always hear about old guys buying vehicles like what they first had. Well, I had the original and it has some great memories attached to it.

So now that I'm an old retired guy, I realized it's time to start getting to work on this project. Today's progress was limited to removing the front wheel assembly and then removing the 30 year old tire so I can start polishing the rim and spokes.

Missed #caturday so here's one of Bing, nicely framed by the bentwood chair. He absolutely loves his amplifier shaped scratching box. We've certainly got our money's worth out of it. He completely scratched a hole through the top, so now it's upside down so he can work on the bottom.

Fucking F1TV. I'm on the plan that I have to wait two days to watch the race because I refuse to buy an AppleTV subscription which is required to watch it live.

So this morning is my first chance to watch the Spanish Grand Prix, and after carefully avoiding watching or reading anything that would ruin the suspense, F1TV ruins it for me by posting the title of a post race video that gave away who one it. Right there, front and center on the home page so I couldn't miss it. Thanks a lot!

Came across a rental listing for the 1914 bungalow we owned and restored in San Jose between 1990 and 2000. $4,900 a month! That's 5 times what our mortgage payment was.

At least they didn't paint the woodwork, which was one of the reasons we fell in love with this house.

Some of the individual JS and CSS files that I looked at have over 10K lines of code. It would not surprise me if there are more than a million lines of code to display the page that doesn't work.

Mr. Bing took pleasure in the fact that the field next door was mowed for hay this week. Makes catching the rodents much easier. He showed up at the door bragging three times this week.

I just showed the photo to George, hoping it would inspire him to go catch the gopher that's making a mess of my garden. He was unimpressed. Kibble will do just fine, thank you very much. For being such an outdoor cat, George doesn't really participate in the outdoor lifestyle.

My absolute dream house. So many details in it tick off everything I'd ever want in a house and garden.

Two things I can't believe about it:
1. It was built in 1991. Yes, that's not a typo. 1991. This is the most accurate Victorian replica I've seen. Totally fooled me. Apparently it's a replica of a house that was built in S.F.

2. This was a steal at $3.9M. This house, in California on 1745 pristine acres with not a neighbor around. $3.9M. WTH?

With Swalwell dropping out that will leave a large segment of Dem voters with a choice.

Mine is Katie Porter, who came in second of a poll that Indivisible took.

I will not vote for a billionaire in the primary. Tom Steyer is sitting on 2 billion dollars that he made by managing investments for other millionaires and billionaires.

This means he hangs around and belongs to a class of people I want nothing to do with. I certainly don't want men of privilege who worked in finance running our state.

Rich people making laws is one way we've gotten into this mess. Voting another in will only make it worse. I don't care if the values he professes seem to align with what most dems want. I would be worried he would succumb to insider trading. Anyone who has accumulated $2B and is still trying to accumulate more money and power can not be trusted.
