Wind and solar helped the UK avoid US$7.8 BILLION in gas imports during the Hormuz crisis.
That’s what breaking fossil fuel dependence looks like.
Governments backing more oil and gas owe people an explanation.
SCALE UP RENEWABLES.
AI CEOs should have their lives be made a living hell.
take for example Anthropic claiming Claude can feel pain. they should immediately be sued for false advertising, then if they (somehow) convince the court it isn't false advertising, take them to court for slavery.
either they're lying or they're slave owners. they can't have both. i believe it's obviously the first one, and that under the threat of jail they'll admit it.
@haskal@types.pl one of the greatest things ive ever experienced while working in a nightclub was this woman who, upon being complimented on her dress, said "thanks it has pockets" then pulled out a fucking Nintendo switch
Spotted this great image, yes a real image, last night! It looks like a firework going off!
It's of the supernova remnant Pa 30 and was taken by the Gemini Observatory (north).
It's probably the only one of these I have ever seen an image of and could also be the only one we know about in the entire Galaxy.
Pa 30 (IRAS 00500+6713) has a central white dwarf star (eventually what our Sun will become).
The idea is that this supernova ejecta formed in 1181 and may have been observed / documented by Chinese and Japanese astronomers. It's thought to have formed when two white dwarfs collided.
Those long radial filaments are likely caused by Rayleigh- Taylor instabilities. The authors of the paper below suggest that these could be what's left over from a slower ejecta shell that has been shaped into these long, narrow structures by the winds of the white dwarf star.
The white dwarf itself is fascinating. Likely rapidly rotating and has a very powerful magnetic field (almost as strong as a millisecond pulsar).
Truly an odd, yet wonderful Galactic object!

You can all see the pressure being put on Ukraine once again. Once again, we are being asked to surrender.
If you think this won’t affect you, unfortunately, you’re wrong. Your country could be attacked too, and then you might be told to surrender.
What an absurd world we are living in right now.
I don’t hear Trump saying that Putin has gone too far by kіІІіng us every single day. Instead, I keep hearing the same attempts to break us, the same voices telling us: Surrender. Just surrender.
Don’t stay silent. Because tomorrow, it could be your country.
It’s time for the US to get a new leader, not Ukraine
While we’re at it.. Russia, China, North Korea, Israel also could use some dictator removal
Just got a mass email from our bank that essentially says, "If you give your username and password to an AI agent, you're on your own."
You've. Been. Warned. 🤣
You need to learn the grammar of your language yourself, not lean on a tool or hope an editor fixes it, the way you learned to drive before getting behind the wheel rather than after. I write up to 12,000 words a day and punctuation is automatic now because I learned the rules years ago.
Bring back þe letter þ. How can you þrow out þe only rune in your alphabet?
Also bring back ð. But ðis time, except in very common words like þe which look nice þe oðer way round, don't treat ðem as interchangeable. Use ð for þe voiced one and þ for þe unvoiced one, like ðey do in Icelandic.
Enoȝ is enoȝ.
a clarification
since our problem in the #USA is twofold
1. #bigotry and #ignorance on the right galvanized by #propaganda to vote
2. #perfectionism and #cynicism on the left uselessly whining and not voting
if the mere idea that #MAGA intends to steal the #election convinces you not to #vote, you're incredibly weak, and via that you're helping #fascism. you hear what #Trump wants from you, and you're so emotionally addled you obey. don't be this kind of loser (literally: you lose)

I heard what he said, and while I agree with the sentiment behind it, no matter what your intentions are behind that decision, by not swallowing your pride and voting for Kamala, by omission, you gave up that space in Trump's favor. You didn't vote FOR him, but you didn't push against him, either.
Walking away from the trolley problem still makes you complicit.
And if you voted third party, it's just as bad as abstaining.
While, as he admits, it wouldn't have moved the needle in his state, that wasn't an election to be playing games over your pride. Nor is this upcoming one.
Defeat the worst case scenario first. Then we can have some breathing room for the rest of it. :P
