A couple months ago I posted a clip of an app I made just for myself, and a bunch of you said “please release this.” So I did!

Cava Reader is an ebook + audiobook reader for Android. You load an EPUB and its audiobook, and it highlights each word as the narrator says it, karaoke style. The speech recognition runs on your phone, so it all works offline.

I made it because my brain wanders. When the words light up I never lose my place, and if I zone out for a second I just look back and the highlight is right there. (Same reason I always record my blog posts and post them next to the text. Friends with ADHD got me into that habit.)

No account, no ads, your books never leave your device. There’s also a built-in library of 37 public domain classics you can read along with for free.

Reading and listening are free, read along on the classics is free, and read along on your own books is free for the first 4 hours. After that it’s a one-time $9.99 for the Full app. No subscription.

This is my first closed-source project and the first thing I’ve ever charged for. It’s the most effort I’ve ever put into anything, and it might be what finally stops me from dipping into my savings to keep Altbot running. If you do buy Full, thank you :)

Im Radio wurde gerade gefragt, was denn die erste Single gewesen wäre, die man sich gekauft habe. Ich hatte keine erste Single. Ich hatte alle Singles von meiner Schwester geerbt, die zwölf Jahre älter ist. Das war dann viel von Ende der 60er und Anfang/Mitte der 70er.

Ich kann allerdings sagen, was meine erste CD war. Das war Thriller von Michael Jackson, damals frisch erschienen.

Ich vermute ja, dass durch diese Rätsel Innocent und Criminal so nahe im Lesezentrum des Gehirns zusammenlie gen, dass man sie öfter mal falsch liest. (Mit fällt sonst keine Ausrede ein.)
