"what do you meaaaaaan the technology is inherently harmful, it's just math" motherfuckers need to get a fucking grip

@veronica Same! Two of my clients have banned Apple hardware from the premises. The guideline is anything that runs Siri AI or is capable of video and audio recording. It’s crazy how people are ok with surveillanceware.

cannot believe that the current debate in open source is "should we actually understand the code we write or should we give money to sam altman and dario amodei to rent the ability to produce the jankiest garbage you've ever seen"

@nina_kali_nina I'll try

A quick recap of what I'm currently working on: I'm building a subtractive monosynth on an STM32F446 microcontroller, with all code hand-written in assembly.

The goal is to build a synth expander that is inexpensive, independent from the computer and has enough physical controls to be suitable for live performance.

Part of the motivation for this project is that I didn't want to remain dependent on huge janky software stacks for doing music, especially now that things are quickly ensloppifying. Nor did I want to spend hundreds of euros on a hardware synth (and not learn a single thing about how they actually work in the process).

I've been working on this since May (with large study-related breaks in between) and it can now output a nice sawtooth signal over line out and react to MIDI Note On messages. Next up will be implementing envelope / NoteOff.

I live-toot at #LuBuildsAMonosynth and you can check out the current state at: https://git.sr.ht/~lhinderberger/monosynth

Reports are increasingly appearing from Ukrainian military and experts that Starlink has been turned off/limited for Ukrainian Defenders.

Starlink is used in the most effective Ukrainian interceptor against Russia's jet-powered drones. So if it's not functioning properly, it's about making Ukrainians and Ukrainian infrastructure defenseless against increasing Russian drone attacks.

If Starlink limitations continue, Russians will kill more Ukrainian children.

People who find LLMs useful when "used correctly" don’t understand that they manage to use them correctly because they spent 20 years of there life learning their craft without LLMs.

LLMs is the only tool for which the less you use it, the better you become at using it.

"The circumstances of its bankruptcy are exactly what critics of AI have been saying would happen: Character.ai lit a huge amount of money on fire running its product, did not bring in a lot of revenue, and faced enormous legal fees after causing harm to its users."

i wanna start a software consultancy for cleaning up vibecoded projects where all we do is ask clients when they started vibecoding and rollback to a commit before that point

European governments are literally ripping out servers from racks in their own countries because Uncle Sam ordered them too. This is why I roll my eyes to the back of my head when I hear deeply unserious proposals for "dIgITaL sOvEreIgNTy" in Europe. As long as #autisticiInventati is getting shut down, y'all don't have any sovereignty to begin with. https://www.behoerden-spiegel.de/2026/09/29/digitale-souveraenitaet-fuer-jeden/ #digitalsovereignty #amsterdam #netherlands

Currently, hundreds of GW of residential solar power are controlled by terribly insecure & unregulated clouds owned by companies continents away. This problem is well known & could take down the whole European energy grid. We just had a conference about it, and still nothing is happening. Here's my writeup: https://berthub.eu/articles/posts/solar-nightmare-at-the-conference/ #ENISA #NIS2 #CRA

This is depressing. Perfectly good alternatives to all Adobe have existed for many years and are used at pro level, but someone hallucinates some code with claude (which I hear was trained on code of programs like gimp and inkscape) and suddenly everyone is raving about it being the end of Adobe, though the thing they praise is at best entry level stuff. But like other snake oil sellers, they claim it will get there, though their "in one month" is now "many months" #artcraft #foss

Family portrait of my orrery designs and the current large work in progress. Not shown: the giant pile of 3D printed gears and brackets along the way as the design has been worked on.

@slyka the incident that gave me appreciation for breadboard parasitics was when i was building an audio project as a high schooler and wondered why my music was so quiet. Like i could hear it, if just should have been a lot louder.

So i double checked my circuit and found the speaker wire was plugged one column to the right of the anplifier output, AC coupling through the parasitics between them

@forty2 @ramy @f4grx grey graphlink has a pic micro for protocol translation. black graphlink is bitbanged from the flow control lines, containing only a quad comparator & some passives. the calc side protocol is not too bad, just weird: approximately "assert line T=1, or R=0; receiver confirms by asserting other", plus framing.
