Flower power.

It sounds like something truly terrible is happening to these goats.

The truly terrible thing that's happening? I am not walking fast enough toward them with the evening grain bucket.

Poor poor goats.

(1) the CIA was actively involved in resettling alleged Nazis in Canada after the Second World War, (2) the CIA deceived Canadian officials, and (3) a leading CIA officer in charge of resettlement operations was later the CIA’s representative in Ottawa.

Just made a small batch of cookies (chocolate chip recipe from Chatelaine if anyone's interested), and a batch of tomato soup, black bean soup, and cooked the last of the pre-made pastry shells with a jar of homemade homegrown green tomato mincemeat (ping me if you want the recipe I found for that).

Chopped celery and onions using the food processor over the weekend and threw them in the freezer for cooking. What a revelation! Will do a bunch of carrots so I have ingredients for soup stock ready to go.

The things you don't learn when two generations of people above of you aren't cooks.

Anyway.

Soup & snacks for the win, with apologies for the hasty snapshot.

Venmo, but for sending each other burritos.

My walk this rainy afternoon.

The leaves aren't yet at their peak. I do hope the bad weather we're due doesn't blow them all off before they get started.

Today in #covid fun: Elderly, high-risk person expressing reluctance to get jabbed.

Me: "You can get infected at church. People might not even know they have the virus."

Them: "Oh, that could be."

HOW many years has it been?

Someday I'm going to explode into a thousand bats and that person will have no idea why.

Good night to my friends in the Fediverse

There's a bumper crop of squirrels this year. One suspects there was a second litter of pups.

A diner was set up at the side of the trail which looks to be pretty popular.

What I’ve learned so far: Mark Carney hasn’t bothered to appoint a cabinet member responsible for disability issues.

Was out doing errands today and fellow mentioned a curb, “those are the things that Olivia Chow is getting flack over.”

“Why?”

“Because it makes it harder to turn.”

“Why? The corner is just offset to keep bicyclists in the bike lane safer from being cut off from cars. Cars aren’t the only road traffic.”

“Oh.”

Needing to update a mutual aid website with recent statistics about food insecurity, I went looking online.

I’d noticed how StatCan’s numbers had been rising in the 2020s, with 2024’s results saying that 25.7% of Canadians lived in a food insecure household. I assumed from the increases so far that 2025 would be upwards of 30%, especially given food prices continue to rise.

I kept waiting this year for 2025’s results to be released, but eventually had to go looking. And StatCan says that in 2025 it’s 24% of Canadians experience food insecurity.

It’s not that I want it to be higher, but I am suspicious, as I don’t see anything to suggest a reprieve from financial struggles over 2025. Perhaps it’s just that people are learning to spend less on food?

I am, of course, getting bogged down in the metrics when I should just update the website and move on with things.
