This is the story of a fifteen minute mini-lesson, where I had students probe ChatGPT on topics where they are experts.
It exposed to them the tendency of the AI to just make s**t up on topics it hasn't been trained.

I feel like the main motivation for using AI is the feeling that they've gotten away with something, that they're able to use "one neat trick" to sound smart about something they don't really care about. And unfortunately there's a very negative emotional response to being called out on one's wrongness.
This lesson repositions students emotionally, so that they can be the knowledgeable ones calling out the BS. It's an aha, instead of a gotcha.
Wow this is a great exercise and every high school student in the US really needs to go do this with a thing "you know about but you think adults probably don't"
Favorite bands, sports teams, Pokemon strategies, slang, makeup application techniques, etc
