Plantain Biscuits & Gravy: I love traditional BAG and wasn't sure what to expect, but took a chance based on the server's strong rec. She didn't steer me wrong.
Watched the trailer for The Long Walk, a story I love and know well. I think the movie will be great.

My two favorite George Wendt memories have nothing to do with Cheers: The first was spotting him in a guest role in an episode of M*A*S*H, where he played a Marine that inexplicably got a pool ball stuck in his mouth. 🤣
The second was around 2001 when I saw him on a celebrity edition of The Weakest Link trivia show. Slowly, methodically, without any fanfare, he was KILLING it. Even the mean British lady grudgingly gave him props.
RIP to a class act.
Listening to the podcast This Had Oscar Buzz and I learned that the actor who played Carl in Love Actually and the actor who played Xerxes in 300 are the same person.

The 9yo's baseball team is a respectable 4-2 a third of the way through the season. So much better than last year when his team didn't win a single game. Winning, it turns out, is fun! ⚾

El Monterey Chicken & Cheese Taquitos: Picked up a 30 pack at Costco and the 12yo loves them for a quick after school snack. They're delicious. Highly recommend.

Reading two (not intentionally) short story collections this week: Things We Lost In The Fire by Mariana Enríquez (ebook) and The Low Desert by Tod Goldberg (audiobook). The first collection seems pretty dark; I think I'll need something more lighthearted when I'm done with it. Goldberg is reliable for his crime/underworld stories. Yesterday I nailed my Strava goal to run 100km in the month of April. 4 days to spare and a day earlier than I initially planned!
The 9yo's #baseball season kicked off. He has a better team and better coaches than last year when his team was winless, so we're optimistic for a fun spring.
Speaking of baseball, the #Cubs - the real ones, not the team manned by 3rd and 4th graders - are in first place. I didn't see that coming. Hope it lasts!
Just finished Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, which of course was the inspiration for the hit Broadway show. Truly a fascinating life, where sometimes fact is stranger than fiction. It makes one wonder what might have happened had Hamilton's life not been cut short.
This quote stood out to me:
"His faith in Americans never quite matched his faith in America itself." It was like he had a crystal ball.

About half way through The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty. It's a swashbuckling tale of a 13th Century Arabian pirate, complete with magic, sea monsters, demons, betrayal, etc. It works well in #audiobook format and I am enjoying it so far even though the transitions in the story are sometimes clunky. #FridayReads #Books #Bookstodon #Fiction #Adventure @bookstodon
