It feels bizarre seeing news articles about the work I perform. I led this process this time around, my first time as a Coordinator rather than a Team Lead. It was one of the most complex and political damage assessment, probably due to the current climates.
The article does get one thing wrong. Harney County had a lot of flood damages to homes, but Douglas County had more infrastructure impacts, about $8-12 million from the events versus Harney's $1.5-$2m.
Now we wait and see if the Feds will fund this recovery for an area that voted 90% for this Administration. My money is on a denial.

My kid just WhatsApped from his German exchange trip. They had to call an ambulance for him.
He has food poisoning, was very pale and nauseous. He was dehydrated and his blood pressure was dropping.
He's fine now but I wanted to share this because it has the most Western Europe Is a Civilized Place ending ever.
The paramedics came to the mall, took him into the ambulance, gave him an IV, checked him out, stayed with him until he felt better, then told him "No charge. Enjoy your trip to Germany." And if that wasn't enough, when they realized the group had had to move onto the train station without him, they gave him a ride over there to catch up with them.
I'm so ground down by the predatory realities of America in general in 2025 that this just about blew my fucking mind.

Working on damage assessments for a heavily flooded area of our state. Then I remembered that the headwaters had burned over last summer, meaning increased runoff, faster snowmelt, etc. So I logged on to USDA's Burn Severity Portal... And all the past fire reports appear to have been deleted including recently completed ones from last summer's fires. Many links are dead.
I'll try contacting the forest offices to see if we can get a backup. This is a critical resource for the environment, our health, life, and safety.
I am at a loss, mad, and sad. These actions being taken are making our jobs and lives so hard and truly hurting everyone regardless of ideology.

Hearing from California, Iowa, Ohio and Oregon that #FEMA and #DHS has not released any disaster grant reimbursements in over 30 days. Most requests were submitted circa 2/20/25 with no funds received as of 3/26/25.
These are critical emergency disaster recovery grants. Lack of approved disaster funding will cripple governments as they work on their budgets. These reimbursements come from American tax dollars that are put into the Disaster Relief Fund.
