Off the top of my head, I think Pawpaws probably require winter sowing (to experience freeze/thaw cycles) so the time to plant is late fall, to emerge the following year.

They also benefit from passing through the digestive tract of a Mastodon. 🤷‍♀️

The perks of being stuck in traffic: A couple years ago, at a full stop on the entrance ramp to the interstate, I noticed this cactus. This one seems to be exploiting the protection of the metal guardrail. A true survivor. I’ve been watching it ever since.

Finally caught it in bloom! What a beautiful sight! It’s Optunia humifusa, Eastern prickly-pear, one of the two native cactus species here. #NativePlants
