Some schoolgirls are campaigning to change the law to prevent the use of school uniform in pornography, because it encourages men to see schoolchildren as sex objects.

It's finally dawned on me. Pip and Stella are actually getting married *this* weekend, during Storm Boelo, but a time warp in Borsetshire meant that we got the relevant episodes several days in advance, and left the characters in a complete muddle about what day it is.

Fortunately BorSeTshire time ends on Sunday, and with luck we'll all be back in sync by the end of the month.

I am pleased to learn from @BBCRadio4's In Our Time yesterday that the goddess Ishtar is a trans ally. (This is mentioned very late on, but I enjoyed the whole thing.)

See, THIS is what the Internet is supposed to be for

PS It was a lovely morning when I left the midlands today. Bright blue sky, big white clouds, literally dazzling sunshine. Awfully bad luck for Pip and Stella... well, probably worse for some of their guests.

Dolly Parton mentioned! But by Chelsea.

I read some post about how Mastodon consists primarily of German-speaking creatures talking in English. I'm gonna do a poll, need to test that. Boosts highy appreciated!

So, do you speak German?

Time for a new craft project? 😅

Of course, Elsinore and Wild Horse Nine also both focus on white men, and I put that in the original post, but ran out of space so took it out again.

There is also a connection between the films in that I know Andrew Scott, who plays Ian Charleson in Elsinore, appeared in Fleabag (which I haven't seen), whose creator was Phoebe Waller-Bridge, whom I understand to be the partner of Martin McDonagh, who made Wild Horse Nine.

I've seen two new films from the London Film Festival which were shared with Home in Manchester: Elsinore, about Ian Charleson preparing to play Hamlet in 1989 while fighting Aids, and Wild Horse Nine, about two fictional CIA agents visiting Easter Island/Rapa Nui in the run-up to the 1973 coup in Chile.

I enjoyed both, and was thinking how very different they were, until it occurred to me that both feature a protagonist with a terminal illness who is introduced being filmed for a sound check.

I wish I had a camera that could convey how stunning this sky really was.

If you are ever in London it's worth visiting Cable Street to see the mural commemorating the battle. Photos don't really do it justice.

Supernumerary Rainbows over New Jersey

Explanation: Yes, but can your rainbow do this? After the remnants of Hurricane Florence passed over the Jersey Shore, New Jersey, USA in 2018, the Sun came out in one direction but something quite unusual appeared in the opposite direction: a hall of rainbows. Over the course of the next half hour, to the delight of the photographer and his daughter, vibrant supernumerary rainbows faded in and out, with at least five captured in this featured single shot. Supernumerary rainbows only form when falling water droplets are all nearly the same size and typically less than a millimeter across. Then, sunlight will not only reflect from inside the raindrops, but interfere, a wave phenomenon similar to ripples on a pond when a stone is thrown in. In fact, supernumerary rainbows can only be explained with waves, and their noted existence in the early 1800s was considered early evidence of light's wave nature.
