Welcome to Issue 258 of The Continent

For months, the United States has been deporting people to countries that are not their own. The Continent spoke to some of them, in Cameroon.

The cover of The Continent, dated 31 October 2026, shows a giant futuristic turquoise aeroplane with an American flag across its tail, surrounded by rows of African flags, including those of Cameroon and Vietnam. Beneath the aircraft, a group of people descend into a rectangular opening in the ground painted in red, white and blue stripes, while armed soldiers in camouflage and carrying rifles stand guard. One soldier dominates the foreground, watching the scene with his back partly turned towards the viewer. The background is muted beige, with reddish-brown ground contrasting against the plane’s bright turquoise body. In the bottom-right corner, the headline reads “A one-way ticket to limbo”.
