    You know what's a social privilege? Disaster prep. An awful lot of people do not have the spare resources to prepare in advance. (Flashback to the people who stuck out Hurricane Katrina in Nola b/c they didn't have bus fare to get out of town.)

    As with anything else, take care of your own needs first, but if afterwards you are able to do more, please invest in community resilience and the preparedness of your vulnerable friends, too.

    @ShaulaEvans

    And spreading tips, and starting support groups! I started one on zoom for local folks

    There's not accessible, and then there's stuff that people think is not accessible. Both can be addressed

    @ShaulaEvans there are volunteer opportunities in my neighborhood to assist with community gardens. There's plenty of open spaces that are perfect for this. Fresh fruits, veggies, seeds are available for anyone. We have seed shares, and I have found that you can grow a good supply in small places like a balcony or a back yard by growing in totes and containers. I'm planning on building a little stand that can store the extras from our garden for anyone who wants to stop by and grab something. People sell eggs and veggies on stands out here on these kind of things. I think I might do a "tip if you'd like" thing and use that for improvements. It's working out for this neighborhood, and I think these are the kinds of things anyone who has the time could do.

    I have no affiliation to this, but this is the organization called Giving Gardens: ://www.givinggardensforall.com

    @ShaulaEvans One thing about having regular weather disasters is we’ve gotten pretty good at preparing for them. Certain schools, churches and community centers are designated shelters and also serve as centralized places for aid.
