Not too much time left for Poland's oldest series of 160 km/h locomotives, the EP09 - PKP Intercity will be withdrawing them from scheduled service in 2028 and relegating them to reserve duty. Some three to four units are to be set aside for heritage and museum purposes, made a bit harder by the loco previously meant to be preserved for heritage rides and such getting wrecked in the Sokolniki accident in September.
In the coming timetable, they are to be scheduled on just 6 pairs of trains, including 3 out of 4 on the Warsaw-Sandomierz-Rzeszów route:

The Adriatic Express carried more people than last year, but fell way short of predicted ridership - apparently heatwaves and reliability issues might be to blame. In particular, the finger is pointed at HŽPP and delays of train 210 Vinkovci-Zagreb-Ljubljana-Rijeka, which cascaded onto the north-bound Adriatic Express, although it's hardly news that the whole thing is an intricate relay with a number of possible points of failure. That the promised bus connections to Trieste didn't happen in the end is another unfortunate point against. Hoping useful lessons were learned! https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/adriatic-express-pkp-intercity-pasazerow-w-2026-r-mnie-niz-planowano-154820.html

Someone went shopping at InnoTrans - Poznań's Modertrans and some company I haven't heard of before called PTS have closed a deal for 11 Talent DMUs from Alpha Trains - the units are to be withdrawn from service at the beginning of 2027, polonized and then presumably sold or leased to interested parties of which I'm sure there will be a few: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/modertrans-i-pts-kupily-kolejne-uzywane-jednostki-spalinowe-w-niemczech-154919.html

While Polregio acquired two reimported Kolzam RegioVans from refurbisher SPS Mieczkowski (the very same company that discovered Newag's anti-competion software locks) for use in Podlachia. The two units were previously used by Koleje Śląskie and then GW Train Regio in the South Bohemian Region: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/polregio-kupilo-dwa-kolzamy-sa109-od-sps-mieczkowski-154932.html

In #CrossRegionRail, Koleje Śląskie will be extending a couple of their trains from Chorzew Siemkowice to Zduńska Wola, nice to see: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/lodzkie-koleje-slaskie-pojada-do-zdunskiej-woli--154856.html

In #CrossBorderRail, after years of dismissive treatment, the Ministry of Infrastructure was finally convinced to launch long-distance trains via Muszyna to Košice, Miskolc and Budapest before the Podłęże-Piekiełko line is ready. If the European Commission allows a direct award, 3 pairs could run as early as 2027/8, with a fourth from 2030. I think there are still some details to be hashed out, apparently Hungary is letting Slovakia negotiate with Poland on their behalf: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/pociagi-warszawa--koszyce--budapeszt-rusza-juz-za-rok--154857.html

Meanwhile in cargo, Poland has had to pay high fines for not detecting customs fuckery in loads arriving by rail from China (stuff like e-bikes being shipped with batteries separated and declared as a regular bike) and is now looking to recover from the easiest target… the local cargo train operators involved, who protest they weren't even allowed to break the Chinese customs seals and inspect the loads themselves: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/afera-celna-na-jedwabnym-szlaku-przewoznicy-nie-chcemy-odpowiadac-za-nie-nasze-winy-154931.html

Meanwhile more Port Polska vs CPK camp drama was triggered by a government regulation on tunnel construction apparently mandating a minimum distance of 4 meters between main tracks and supports of tunnel sections that have buildings on top. The opposition argues the amendment will cause chaos and project delays and who knows what will happen to the idea of building over the tracks between Warsaw West and Central. Independant deputy Paulina Matysiak, having heard from the state company behind Port Polska that they did not requested the changes, went to the Ministry of Infrastructure and after exercising the parliamentary right to audit public institutions was told… that the amendments had been requested by said company: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/tunel-cpk-sprzeczne-informacje-ze-spolki-i-z-ministerstwa-154909.html

Aside from launching some filler buses to Turek, Koleje Wielkopolskie seem to be building up an offer of bus+train tickets - starting with some Euromatpol lines in the Gniezno and Konin areas, with more to come, supposedly. The Wielkopolski+ combined tickets offer a roughly 10% discount, are sold only in singles, only on KW's website and e-Podróżnik, and only for select trips reasonably timed to connect with trains. Which sounds like a pretty meh offer, though to be somewhat fair, this is private bus companies we're talking about: https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/koleje-wielkopolskie-integracja-taryfowa-z-autobusami-w-rejonie-gniezna--154714.html

Stefan Lindbohmstefanlindbohm@mastodon.socialOct 21, 2026, 5:45 PM@HaTetsu I think PHP is about as bad as it gets? Unless you mean Javascript/nodejs :trollface:

@stefanlindbohm ASP.NET on IIS
.NET isn't bad to write, but I'm glad I'm not in the position of managing IIS

@HaTetsu Oooh ok that is actually worse 🙈. Although ASP.NET doesn’t have much in common with classic ASP or does it? The more it has the worse, coming from someone who’s first programming language actually was classic ASP :D
