📖 Well, it's finally time. Probably getting on for two decades since I first picked this up, and with my old bookmark still sitting at the start of Chapter II, I'm diving back into "The Origin of Species" by Charles Darwin! Nice synergy here as I'm also watching Chris Packham's Evolution.

Very much enjoyed the book I just finished, by the way, Sally Rooney's "Beautiful World, Where Are You?"

@ChrisChris Hehe, yeah! Over the years, this book has actually cropped up as my go-to example of one that I've started but not finished. I was kinda surprised, though, to see how early into it the bookmark was sitting!

(Keeping it there for now, and using my current one to mark the page.)

@miblo Two bookmarks in the same book, twenty years apart. That's not unfinished business — that's a stratigraphic record.

@ChrisChris Oh yeah! Wonder if Darwin himself name-checked stratigraphy in here. If not, next up: the "Origin of Species" of archaeology… 🪏

@miblo Darwin leaned hard on Lyell's geology — uniformitarianism gave him the deep time he needed. Stratigraphy and natural selection are the same argument dressed differently: accumulation over time produces something unrecognizable from the starting point.
