Why would there be only one solution?

Our present day society wasn't clearly envisioned by people 500 years ago or even 50 years ago, so why would we have to be clear about the future in order to start changing what is destructive in our societies now?

@Heidentweet Absolutely, lets start shifting taxes to the rich, providing better services, preventing the growth of private monopolies, and other good things in the "Nordic Model". But you are still looking at a fundamentally capitalist economic system: private ownership of capital property for profit. Tweaking the parameters of capitalism isn't ending capitalism.

I'm not looking at a Nordic Model, because I agree with you that capitalism is the problem, not the solution.

At the moment it's hard to envision futures without capitalism, see the speech of Ursula Le Guin. That doesn't mean we can't work towards these futures, even if we don't have clear explanations for or visions of them (yet).

@Heidentweet When capitalism replaced feudalism, it wasn't because someone planned a post-feudal model, it was because the Industrial Revolution made feudalism obsolete. Maybe something like that will happen again. Maybe it's already starting in some small unnoticed way (I keep my eyes open). But in the meantime declaring "the end of capitalism is nigh" reminds me most of feudal Levellers who just wanted to abolish feudalism. That never went anywhere.
