Turns out people are buying RNLI Christmas cards in order to add money to all the donations which are flooding in.
Now it appears that some are planning to buy them and send them to Reform’s free post address.
Really, if you did that, it would cost them an awful lot of money... 💅
Freepost RUHS-YGAJ-TKBL
Reform UK
Millbank Tower
21-24 Millbank
LONDON

Past it on.

@Thayer does this work from outside the UK as well? Would be a shame if they'd incur international fees as well. 🤔

@Laird_Dave not a clue give it a crack. I hear you can send anything there like old junk mail you don't want so you don't have to use an envelope.

Great, and highly amusing plan. Unfortunately, they seem to have a queue of crypto billionaires just waiting their turn to spaff squillions into Reforms war chest.
I do wonder to myself, what they stand to get if Reform win power, what with them being the party of the common man and all that.🤔

@Jaimieserotica well quite. But it's fucking with my head too much to focus on the bad today so I'm drilling down on what can be done no matter how small. 💪

even if it doesn't cost Reform that much money, it could still reach a point where Royal Mail (now a commercial company) tell Reform they have had enough of them as a customer as it causes them too much hassle compared to dealing with other businesses that use Freepost (but just get normal mail)

@Thayer Years ago, I heard a story about someone who was really fed up with a financial services company and taped a pre-paid reply envelope to a paving slab so that the firm would be hit by the excess postage.

@plwt @Thayer There's an old science fiction story about a materials scientist with the same gripe...he invents a metal so dense that a thin sheet small enough to be "slipped" into an envelope weighs about as much as a battleship.

@_thegeoff @plwt @Thayer Tangentially relatedly, Poland's post services were being demonopolized in 00's. They started by removing the Polish Post's law-given monopoly for "letters above 50g" IIRC. Thus we ended up with lots of companies sending out letters with a 50g weight (usually a sheet of aluminium) attached to them.

(I don't think that this ridicules the Post that much, as TTBOMK they had more stringent requirements to serve everyone than new competitors.)

google tells me, a guy in the USofA, that this will cost reform about 90p/postcard
so if 100,000 cards get sent, that is roughly 100,000 pounds ?
I guess that is a lot ?

@Thayer @stsresident it *may* work with the license number only printed as text. these days the envelopes have a barcode that encodes the same license number, and I'm not sure if it's mandatory to include that now.
the address you showed is a Freepost address though, not a Business Reply address.

@Thayer @stsresident aha! the freepost license number you've got there is the old one from last year that no longer exists. you want the new one;
Freepost Plus RUHS-YGAJ-TKBL
Reform UK
Millbank Tower
21-24 Millbank
LONDON
SW1P 4QP
if you want to print the full envelope, barcode included, you can generate one on RM's website: https://www.royalmail.com/response-services-artwork-generator/licence#/design
remember to select Freepost Plus during generation.
