I did a little research and this story seems to be real but it's driving me nuts that I can't seem to find the name of the runner she was helping to drink.
I like this story but it also bothers me how people fawn over it because I do not consider this to be something that should be remarkable. It should be normal, you know?
But also, who is the guy? I wanted to read about his running career and if he was on any teams or ever ran in NYC.

@futurebird Yeah, why the fuck wasn't water accessible to all the marathon runners. Neither she nor the unnamed disabled runner should have been put in this position, it is a disgrace to the organizers. @MarkHoltom

What caught my eye was that this guy was running a marathon so he obviously trains distance. Doesn't he have a system worked out? Wouldn't he wear that kind of augmented camelback instead depending on the water stations?

@PizzaDemon @futurebird @MarkHoltom A male runner keeping pace with the female leaders is still a high level elite runner, though not in contention to win the men's division. He'll likely have *trained* with the weight of a hydration vest, the aid of a carer, or both. But *racing* at that level, he wouldn't want the extra weight, and personal staff are likely banned from aid stations.
This is all on the organizers.

Yeah, I'm wondering about this because a marathon is a long race, and the guy would have had to prepare for it through a lot of training, and the problem of drinking (and eating) during the race is something he would have planned for and trained for: i.e., he would have had a way to get water!
But sometimes life is strange, maybe he didn't; IDK!

@futurebird @MarkHoltom Yeah after you said that I went picking through, and it appears that this was such a small race that the results aren't online, at least in English, and I have no Chinese. Otherwise it would be super easy to find his name by his bib number. But the race is still being run, so anybody with Chinese language skills and maybe local contact with race organizers can find him :)
