@MarkHoltom actually, servicing bike creates job opportunities, bikes and components are not free and high quality components can be expensive, cyclists pay for bike on trains, etc. Recreational cyclists spend money in restaurants, pay for accomodation. It is same fallacy as with "car crashes make economy grow" (no, they don't).
