This week, I planted a small patch of byg (barley) and a patch of rug (rye). I'm guessing I'm the first one to do that, in my family, in at least five generations.

Rødbederne plantede jeg om 1. september ser gode ud!

I'm sure I butchered this one. I'm trying to say, "The beets I planted on September 1st look good."

Has anyone, here, ever ground dried chili peppers into powder? What method did you use? How did it work out?

Thanks!

I just saw a headline on a Danish news site -- "Why does Donald Trump need an October surprise?"

Pondering what that madman might do for an 'October Surprise' gave me a feeling of dread deep within my core. 😬

@kennethk
I had a feeling 'i morges' put it in the past tense.

What time designation would I use if I am currently planting them, now, and it is still in the morning?

I morges plantede jeg hestebønner (to slags -- 'Broad Windsor' og 'Sweet Lorane').

I just got my order of seed garlic from Siskiyou Seeds (located in Williams, Oregon). I am very pleased with the quality of this garlic!

Check them out:

How's THAT for a rugbrød starter!

I think one of the problems was the room temperature. The recipe I used recommended a temperature between 23 og 25 grader. Our house is rarely above 20 grader this time of year.

I think I'm going to try another recipe as I had to add a LOT more buttermilk to get the starter somewhere close to the proper consistency.

#danglish

I think I have this closer to being correct, thanks to the help of a couple of people replying to my initial post. (Mange tak!)

The original recipe I am trying calls for 200g rye flour and 200ml of buttermilk. I increased the amount of buttermilk to 350ml to get this consistency.

Jeg laver mit første rugbrød! I dag laver jeg "the starter."

Er det supposed to be this thick og chunky? 😬

"Hawaiians nurture community by harvesting kalo ['taro'] in the Pacific Northwest [in Oregon]"

"Growing kalo feeds families while helping them learn Hawaiian words and cultural practices around the native plant."

"...On a cold morning in late September, dozens of volunteers with the Ka ʻAha Lāhui O ʻOlekona Hawaiian Civic Club sliced the stems of the tropical root vegetables, harvesting their arrow-shaped leaves to be consumed. This was a special barbecue and potluck celebration before the kalo would enter hibernation for the winter.

Growing kalo in this garden — or māla as it’s called in Hawaiian — began as an experiment five years ago. People weren’t sure if kalo could grow in the Pacific Northwest."

Snegle ('slugs') ødelægger mine unge salatplanter. I have heard (and read), for years, that putting out small plates of øl will attract them and then drown them. I happened to have a can of IPA to use as bait. The slugs were not interested at all. I get it.

Er fiskeri populær i Danmark?

If so, what species of fisk do danskere usually try to catch?

Tak!

Dagens høst.

Nu røger jeg dem! 😋

Jeg fangede tre ørreder i dag.

Am I using the correct verb for catching fisk?

Tak!

Mine rødbedere ser sund ud.

Et spørgsmål --

I think (hope) I wrote, "My beets look healthy."

Though, in English, I would more likely write "My beets are looking healthy."

How would most danskere comment on the appearance of something like this?

"My beets look healthy" eller "My beets are looking healthy."

Tak!
