Just when I added some code to my Tymserve ts-2100 fixer gizmo to handle leap seconds, the International Bureau of Weights and Measures , abandons them!

Today on Computers Are Bad: from plesiochronous to synchronous. We try to make some sense of the messy evolution of digital telecommunications over fiber.

After Telstra's outage due to NTP jumping back 1024 weeks, I thought it was time to revisit my TS-2100 GPS/rubidium stabilised NTP server, which also had a 1024 week issue.

A bit of exploration, some dodgy circuitry, an ESP32 and here we have a TS-2100 with Rb locked to GPS with the right time.

Interestingly the 1024 week problem isn't due to the Trimble ACE-II GPS module - Its putting out the correct time - it uses an extended week number.

AI Ad: "Imagine being able to create an app just by thinking about it."

Me: "Right, that's how coding works."

Not much from today's hamfest, but I always thought the Heuer LM11 level meter was neat back when I used them at work, back in the '90s. The pair mainly used for level testing on voice circuits. Both of them still work, so there's a couple of more items for my collection of obsolete Aussie test equipment.

OTD 1977: The first #UNIX port boots at the University of Wollongong, on their Interdata 7/32.

At Princeton, we were the first to *start* a UNIX port, but it was not completed until I went to Amdahl.
Wollongong also beat out the Bell Labs Interdata 8/32 port by a few months

@vk3kri Not to be confused with "trip to Mordor".

Ooohh ! TOKEN RING!

We can't fix that tech debt/broken code, it's heritage listed

A new TV show is coming to Melbourne and Geelong!

The show is called "Stories of Victoria" and will feature ten episodes. These will be compilations of some of my existing videos, organised into themes.

Channel 31 is an amazing resource that has been around for decades supporting community-made content. It is not government-funded and has had a few near misses in recent years. Thankfully it is still around.

Stories of Victoria premiers tonight at 9:30pm (AEDT) and will show every Thursday at the same time. Watch on Channel 31, or afterwards on catchup TV at CTV+.

The VCA is so fast that its actually 'clipping'
the signal on the first cycle of an audio burst. That may be a bit too fast an attack!

Well thats a bugger. No #melburnroobaix this year.
I'll have to find something else stupid to do the last weekend in June. (Other than the normal stupid stuff I'll do by accident)

Debugging my wiring for a I2S serial data audio interface.
There is a pin labeled SCK. SCK is a synonym for BCLK , so that must be the BCLK pin. No , cant be that , there's a pin labled BCK . Oh wait maybe the pin labeled SCK actually means SYSCLK which is a synonym for MCLK.

Oh and the DIN pin is where the output data goes. I guess that bit sort of makes sense.

At now at least makes some audio output that indicates its working - I' m going to bed.

First #cicada of the summer has emerged and is making a lot of noise!

@ricci Quick! Check it to see if the C compiler source includes an injection attack against a specific binary and all other future instances of the C compiler!

More than 200 maps from State Library of Victoria have been georeferenced in the past week! You can chart progress using this dashboard which is updated every 2 hours: https://wragge.github.io/slv-allmaps/dashboard.html

196 SLV maps georeferenced. When will we hit 200? https://wragge.github.io/slv-allmaps/dashboard.html

Help me turn the State Library Victoria's digitised maps into data!

As part of my residency at the SLV LAB, I've been experimenting with using Allmaps and @IIIF to georeference the Library's maps. Georeferencing relates a digitised map to real world geography. It describes the map's position and extent using geospatial coordinates – turning historic documents into geospatial data that can be visualised and manipulated.

I've now created an experimental workflow that enables *anyone* to start georeferencing the SLV's digitised maps. It's fully documented here: https://wragge.github.io/slv-allmaps/

If you love maps, the SLV, or just playing with data, you might like to have a go and georeference some maps. I'm pretty excited about the possibilities, and I'm keen to see how many maps we can process before the end of my residency in December. To see how things are progressing, I've also created a project dashboard: https://wragge.github.io/slv-allmaps/dashboard.html
