When autistic people struggle to understand others, it's seen as our deficit. When others struggle to understand us, that's seen as our deficit too.
But... communication goes both ways!

There's a Reddit post about a mom telling her 13-year-old daughter not to do hobby horsing because she'll get bullied, and the comments are pretty split on whether your job as a parent is to support your children or force them to conform 'for their own good.'
I find it very difficult not to find a 35-year-old still wishing they hadn't been so 'cringe' in middle school significantly more cringe than a 13-year-old enjoying themselves.
Nothing like going outside in a tank top in November to collect pinecones for a Christmas photo.
I appreciate people introducing “creative” spellings of Trump to evade my filter on his name because then I know who to block for disrespect.
I am participating in “No shave Forever”
We honestly need support groups (and also more language maybe?) for ppl seeking to disinvest from big social media
So many people make needed money through these platforms that shaming them (by my observation a popular persuasion method here on fedi🙃) isn't really effective. If you're serious about seeing xitter, fb/meta going oob, lots of working people will need support. It will need to be a movement.
"demetastasis," perhaps

I'm curious. Regardless of any diagnosis, does behavioral activation, generally the idea of 'getting up and doing it anyway' when you are feeling bad, work for you?
'Generally yes' here includes work, chores, exercise, socializing, and other activities you might not want to do on a good day, but you know you 'should.'
'Only when I get to choose' only includes activities that you personally enjoy on a good day, which can include any of the above, or not.
I haven't voted in person since 2020 and I miss the stickers. 🙁
Finished my pastel moth brooch.
I'm getting very close to blocking pixelfed just to get the red missing alt text icons off my feed.
Which is unfortunate.
And since I’ve been really good at filming painting process and you all seem to really enjoy it, here it is!
(Not me almost forgetting the 4th leaf on the main clover even though it’s the whole point of the piece 🫠)

The very first thing that caught my eye when we started talking a lot about neurodivergence a few years back was an infographic about depression vs. autistic burnout.
I've been diagnosed with depression (and social anxiety) for years, and most of the treatment seemed to actively make things worse. And of course I was told that was simply not possible and that I must not understand what 'better' feels like.
The main thing that interested me in the infographic was 'behavioral activation' typically helping with depression, but often making autistic burnout worse.
I think, at best, 'doing it anyway' just sort of makes me compartmentalize feeling awful to get through the day (because I'm used to pretending for others anyway) and just pushes the exhaustion down the road.
I see a lot of my periods of 'doing really well' (doing the things I'm told will help) followed by absolutely crashing much differently now.
I've closed down my Etsy shop!
To celebrate, I'm having a 25% off sale on Fybe, itch.io, and my Patreon shops!
The sale is on from Nov 2nd - 4th!
That was a lot of exclamation marks, but I'm pretty excited to no longer be on Etsy.

Samosa met a neighbor today.
Picked lots of rose hips in the woods. Makes delicious tea with lots of vitamin C
A Dakota elder taught me that one of the names for rose hips in Dakota translates to "itchy ass berries" - so do NOT eat them whole! Tea only!
