So in the shopping plaza in Cupertino where Daiso, Hyuga, and Kiddleton are, they're doing a "anime halloween" event with posters that I hope to got are not slAI op

For $60, let alone e*ghty dollars, your AAA game better cure all our health problems

We're weak to games that look sick and are $15 or less, anything over $30 we need to have an internal system meeting about it

[💙M] Hey chat? She used the train itself as a weapon. :ShockedWhat:

I think the sad truth about the Malfoy trend is, even if every trans person who subscribes to artists drawing the trend drops their monetary subscription, ultimately it will be a drop in the bucket for those creators.

We need cis folks to also drop their subscriptions too, but not many are willing to do so.

Who at Mastodon dev team do I have to pay to make >4-images posts render all of those images, or even just show an indicator that there are More Than Four Images?

I have to make manual "this post has n images, please open original page" indicators when I make >4-image posts on our Sharkey alt.

Personally I never talk about weather on the internet anymore because people are super rude about it.

"Oh you think that's hot/cold, shut up, where I live it's blah blah blah degrees"
Basically just one big Who Has It Worst contest.

Repeating this again: Yes, Harry Potter's author is a total anti-trans scumbag but that doesn't mean you have to pretend you didn't like the books growing up. You can say "I liked the books/films growing up but I moved on after finding out she's a shithead." It's fine, real friends don't chop your head off just because you didn't have the foresight to dislike or avoid the books growing up.

Michiru Yamane turned out to be a Trump-supporting conspiracy theorist, and yet I don't see people who know about this scrambling to retcon their positive opinions of her Castlevania soundtracks and go "actually, Reincarnated Soul and Iron Blue Intention are ear poison"

And yes, I treat non-LLM music that has LLM-made covers the same way I treat LLM-made music: Refusing to support it with listens, publicity, or money, and that's the nicest I will be about it.

While I am grateful that Bandcamp has a policy against LLM/"AI"-slop music and other audio, I did notice that the ban on sloppa only includes just that - they do not have policies against LLM-generated visual assets like album covers. Until they put out another public statement stating that those are disallowed too, I'm gonna take this to mean that Bandcamp welcomes slopped images.

Every time someone I know remarks that they're getting their work hours cut and how it's bad since this means less pay for them, I feel a sense of visceral rage against our shitty economic and labor systems.

Like there are people who have to work long, possibly overtime, hours at their jobs to live and are damaging their bodies and mental health for it, and yet it's still bad when they are made work less and rest more because it means they can't pay for their needs.

The system is working as intended™️, btw!

Megacorp-produced games having excessive graphic fidelity is the entire point. It's to stimulate the graphics processor industry.

Not to be hyperbolic, but I feel like interent society started falling from grace when every corporate-run social media platform started insisting on circular avatars instead of square.

To be less hyperbolic, I don't like it because cropping and designing avatars for a circular spaces is different and takes noticably more effort than a square one.

"The protagonist's lover is actually evil", and similarly, "the protagonist's lover is a mole for the enemy organization."

Just a cheap way to add drama that leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

"We don't condone piracy"
It's okay, we know you're just saying it for Legal Reasons. I hope you're doing well.

bullet hell kinda ruined shmups tbh.

[💙M] "Missile Dancer 2" is my "cellar door" tbh, anyways play Missile Dancer 2

[💙M] Going forward, with regards to our hobby scoreposts, we will be primarily writing these posts specifically with fellow hobbylists in mind.

We can explain basic details for those unfamiliar and who ask questions. But further details, we do not have energy to explain in every single post.

We will continue to provide alt text, but the alt text beyond "screenshot of [GAME], a [GENRE] game" will be geared towards people who already play that game.

As for rhythm game song titles in foreign languages, especially if it's also in foreign script, we can try to provide romanizations or translations, but if we do not know either off the top of our head, we will likely only provide the title of the song as it appears in-game.

The irony of Google turning into slop-machine Q&A is that they once pioneered search by making search terms have "invisible AND" instead of "invisible OR" and having cached versions of pages just in case the page you try to pull up goes 404 or 500 or whatever.

Like I used Google in 2001 before I was old enough to legally go onto online communities and I thought it was the best thing ever.

And now...

All this discourse about ads on websites has me thinking, what is a sustainable way of upkeeping websites? Like maintaining the domain name registration, paying for the server space unless it's self-hosted, etc.

Ads are clearly not a good solution, because they're super distracting and they often promote bad things (like gambling websites) or are AI slop, so many people just block the ads.
But the whole model of "please donate or become a patron if you like this website" might not be sustainable if there aren't many interested folks, either and the people who are regulars to the website might not necessarily have the economic situation to routinely support the site operations.
Some people pay out of pocket to maintain the site, which not every website admin can afford to do.
