#30DaysWild Day 28: the return walk back home but this time at night. I had hoped to see barn owl and bats, or maybe a tawny like last year. Sadly not this time, far too dark at the barn. Although, the was some rustling in the field from something but it was keen to keep to itself.

#30DaysWild Day 27: Instead of a 5 minute drive to my parents I have just walked it: 35 minutes, 1.7 miles. Along streets lined with large mature trees, country roads with hedges and a footpath crossing a farmer's field. A chance to watch and listen to nature on my own doorstep.

#30DaysWild Day 26: I know where most of the spiders in my house like to hunt. If they keep mostly hidden, I usually let them be; they are doing a job in the home. However, today my partially redecorated hallway has gone from zero spiders to seven. With these two large ones getting closer to each other as the morning went on, but by the afternoon only one remained in this corner. I suspect the loft space above had got too hot for them.

#30DaysWild Day 25: I am currently sitting out in my garden, having topped up my hedgehog feeding station, waiting to see if the bats are prepared to come out on this warm evening. 27°C

#30DaysWild Day 24: Just before sunset walked up to the back field to see if I could confirm there are lapwings about. Sadly didn't see any but was joined by a wren foraging in ever corner of a nearby hedgerow. And a group of rabbits out on the field.

#30DaysWild Day 23: My #Aldi wildflower bed is continuing to show more colour. Was surprised how vocal the birds were when I ventured outside in this afternoon's extreme heat to take this photo.

#30DaysWild Day 22: I woke up at first light, 04:20ish. Rather than rolling over to drop off back to sleep, I took it as an opportunity to head to the window and listen to the dawn chorus at its peak.

#30DaysWild Day 21: Today is the longest day, and also Father's Day. So I have just had an evening walk with my Dad and his dog. Have seen plenty of bats out circling the front gardens on their estate.

#30DaysWild Day 20: I had expected my drive up to Preston and back on the motorway as an opportunity to see a kestrel or two, but the surprise was a buzzard effortlessly gliding along the motorway edge.

I had found it amusing, earlier in the day, when an alert on my phone warned me of a man walking his dog in my back garden. It was the neighbour collecting his dog that had got loose. However, I have just discovered the dog has forced his way into the sealed container with my hedgehog food and eaten most if it. No wonder the video clip showed the dog being sick.

#30DaysWild Day 19: I have fitted a temporary cable to my hedgehog feeding station so it is lit up at night.

#30DaysWild Day 18: My wildflower bed is starting to show some signs of life. It is sown from a box of seeds from #Aldi. I wasn't expecting much but it is enough of a start for now.

#30DaysWild Day 17: This hedgehog was still out and about at dawn this morning, but nothing left in the feeding station though. Clip recorded at 04:23.

#30DaysWild Day 16: A quick hour working in the garden after logging off from work. However, rather than wearing my usual headphones, which I would use if working in my garage, I opt to listen to the nature around me. Which was mostly a male blackbird staking his claim to my garden.

#30DaysWild Day 15: a surprise find in my own house, a hummingbird hawk-moth, I think. I had just finished a teams call and this large moth suddenly made its self known. So I had to search for a key to the window to release it.

#30DaysWild Day 14: continued: Having a freshly mowed area in a garden can be as important as having a no mow area. Here is a clip of a blackbird happily worming in my lawn.

#30DaysWild Day 14: I have finally had time to mow my #NoMowMay lawn. However, I have marked out two #SayNoMow areas, 1 front and 1 in the back garden, which will remain unmowed until at least September.

#30DaysWild Day 13: A trip along the M58 to and from Wigan may not sound like an opportunity to connect with nature but you seem always guaranteed to see a kestrel out hunting.

#30DaysWild Day 12: I am just back from a walk up to the fields that back on to my garden, to see if anything was about this evening. Plenty of bats hunting along the hedgerows. And possibly a tawny dropping into the far side of the field. One used a post in my own garden last year, but has failed to return once I installed a camera.

#30DaysWild Day 11: I don't see daisies as often these days. It seems that most fields and patches of grass are filled with dandelions instead.
