So, #NetBSD seems to be gaining traction given the LLM-embrace in the #Linux core team, but have anyone made the jump to #HaikuOS ? If so, what was the experience like?
HaikuOS was one of the few "greenlit" OS on the "no slop" list. This, in combination with being a simple OS for "regular desktop users", kinda make them deserve some extra support.
Reading the status on the latest release candidate, it seem support now is at a level where very few things are missing.
From what I gather, the only reason I would have to boot Linux, would be #BitWig (DAW software).
Sure, Haiku != *Nix, but that is kinda the point, they try to make a simple OS based on one of the best takes of making a simple OS. BeOS was such a neat thing, and to work this long on keeping it alive is amazing.
( My cloud-at-home servers are still moving to #OpenBSD )
Hewwo! I'm Ground Pear The Rat, a furry artist from Brazil. Nice to meet you!
Here you will find mostly, well, my animal people drawings ^^
For anyone wondering wtf was with the ManuMotion thingie, you could listen to St. Elmos Fire (Man in Motion), by the amazing artist David Foster.
Or... don't... just read the lyrics, as however amazing he is with music, he seems to be quite the asshole, so best not let him have any more money, even if Spotify only pays pennies to artists is then more than he deserve.
Not that you should use Spotify anyway because they give money to shitty people no matter what you listen to.
(3/3) If it is ONE thing I don't appropriate, is being called a "tech bro", so it's limited how invested I am willing to be in that fight.
... (2/2) does it really help? These men know what they do is wrong, having other men tell them "hey, you are hurting women!", well, it does not take long before you are written off as "not a real man" and shut out.
Things are not bad because people who know what is right, are not talking to those that don't do what is right. People don't cling to stuff they should not cling to because they don't know it is bad. "Change is hard" - and if it is one thing I have learned as a geeky non binary bird is that no one seem to care a shit about what you say unless they WANT to care.
And the sad fact is that very, very, very few people do want to care. And those that do, are generally no point trying to sway, they already are.
I am not saying we should not keep trying to make people do the right thing, am just saying, don't expect any miracles to happen.
Being told "you are not a man!" is stuff I love to hear, so I can keep telling men to behave better to have them validate my feelings...
But "activists"? (2/3)
Regarding No King protests, I have now seen a few "open source activists and activists need to talk!", with the sensible argument that stuff like fediverse accounts cannot be controlled the way Meta accounts can.
I dunno, but, a lot of the FOSS activists I know, are not limited to being this. Many are VERY politically active, and will argue for FOSS and for left wing or green politics.
It's not like "activists that doesn't understand the advantage of FOSS", don't understand FOSS because FOSS activists are not talking to them.
A lot of these activists are just shutting us off, because we are "geeky nerdy tech bros that are a pain to relate to"
It's easier to relate to the neatly wrapped shit sold by fascist tech bros, because then you don't need to change quite as much, and they justify this by giving us shit labels.
It's a bit like the "men need to talk to men" thing, coming again now given the horrors that surfaced in Cornell, it is of course true, men SHOULD talk to men about this, but... (1/3)
Just got a message saying the appointment was moved from 11:54 to 11:52.
Are they using an AI agent to handle appointments???
My partner has a doc appointment at 11:54, and I cannot wait to hear what the explanation the doc has for giving someone an appointment at 11:54 is... :O
Kinda sad, having blocked two accounts now, both being "do not read Harry Potter, it supports...", something I completely agree with, but both seeming to be quite OK with using AI.
There is some disconnect here. You realize that any connection to something will make that something stronger.
The people made stronger by continued use of AI, are NOT friends with the "queer agenda".
According to ID-verification software, I am not the same person that appears on my passport / national ID card.
In fact, I might not be a real person at all, I seem to fail the "genuine presence" test.
This seems to be the reason I cannot get back onto LinkedIn - no big loss, probably, but in my field that can be a huge disadvantage if I was to look for a new job.
Now I also have to book an appointment with my bank to get the digital "id-portal" login used by most all public and private digital services to identify me, moved to a new phone.
Age-verification is not only an issue with locking out minors from spaces where they can get information and help, and forcing everyone to scan id documents with the risk that comes with.
How will all the ones that "fail" to identify themselves get in? I somehow doubt I can book an "in person" meet with Meta to prove I am who I am, should the software fail.
This should not be an issue, but when services are essentially inside a gated community, it sadly is.

Koden går i produksjon i morges kl 8.
Tjue minutter etterpå: "Hvorfor er X påkrevd!? Kundene klager!"
ALL DOKUMENTASJON SIER VERDIEN ER PÅKREVD!
#Anthropic are boasting about how they make so much code, GIT is no longer suitable as a version control system, and they had to create their own. They write stuff to impress with large numbers, and I get that these might appeal to management that love to see numbers get higher and higher, but please, stop to think about what this actually means...
"In May 2026, Anthropic averaged around 2,500 code changes merged per day; as of September, we merged over 30,000 per day." ... "The history of our main branch alone is almost 100 GB, and a compressed working copy is over 25 GB."
A version control system is a slightly bad name, it keeps tracks of changes in code, not just differences between "released versions". The point is to see what changed, when it changed, who changed it, etc. It's not just a bucket to store things and pull from when needed.
The entire point is gone. No one can validate, or relate to this amount of changes. You create a garbage pile that no one ever wants to look at.
For years the pitch for single page apps was “it’s faster after the first load”. Its true: LCP drops by about a third when you factor in soft navs.
Google’s Core Web Vitals, which feed into search ranking, now measure soft navigations.
But 7 of the 11 SPAs we looked at still make people wait over 2.5s for the first page.
Hard fact: Most sites should be multi-page HTML page loads. JS apps come with too many compromises!
The freezer attack in #France just leaves so many questions. "Why would someone do this?" isn't one of them. With cybersecurity we must just assume that if it can be done, it will be done.
This seems so avoidable and pointless. Yes, it can be hard to make sure hackers never get into a system, but it is possible to monitor things. Set certain restrictions in place that _cannot_ be controlled remotely.
I get there can be a need for these kinda freezers need to be remote controlled, but when something holds as much value as they do, some safe guards have to be in place. Here, it doesn't even feel like it would have been very hard and expensive to do so either.
