Due to irrelevant nerdy reasons, I've spent some time handling Magic the Gathering cards the past few days, and I LOVED seeing artists credited clearly.

We are surrounded by illustrations and drawings whose authors go unnamed unless you dig deep into the instructions or manuals, and sometimes not even that.

Now, we're being swamped by Computer Rendered Artificial Pictures (CRAP) fed on their creativity and their unique ways to see and create.

Let's normalise acknowledging artists together with their art. *Human* art.

Image captions, ALT text, anything. Write their names. Promote them. Shut up slop corporations by giving voice to the humans who should *never* lose it.

Kids today will never believe this, but it used to be an important user interface design consideration that buttons for controlling stuff (like a media player, or paging through a series of photos) not cover up the stuff that the buttons control.

Imagine: videos, where the play and pause buttons were not on covering up the playing video content for any amount of time. “See next photo” buttons that didn’t overlap any part of the current photo you are looking at.

We can have it all again some day, I believe.

@hipsterelectron the ability to put a project down, go to bed, eat dinner, deal with life, etc and then pick it up again tomorrow and the next day is a massively underrated skill.

As of mid-day yesterday, I've made 39 new hexagons for #FinishOrFrogAlong with 42 left to go. Getting more done would've been nice, but finishing all the hexes by the end of October is still a reasonable goal.
Yesterday evening I finished two more hexes, decided a third wasn't working and frogged it, & started a better balanced variation on that one today.
The only frogging has been hexes that needed rebalancing or adjustments for losing at yarn chicken.
Some minor mending also happened.

y'know, given how hard it is to create things and how easy it is to destroy, that there's anything good at all out there says a lot about the general person's willingness to create good things

"The printer," our new manager huffed, "Is still not printing."

We shrugged helplessly, "You fired the only qualified person in this department with the expertise to wield the dark magics required to make it obey."

The manager snorted, "Of course I fired her; she ignored the dress-code and smelled of strange herbs!"

We shrugged again.

"Fine, she's rehired!"

"I want my own broom closet," the witch stipulated, appearing in her chair.

The air was unseasonably warm, as it tended to be, around her.

On her lap her familiar dozed, a tiny, fuzzy snoring pretzel dreaming dreams only a rat could have.

She knitted the colors of the sunset into a shawl, and then the colors of the night, with silver flecks for stars and a soft glow for the moon, leading into a strip of sunrise around the edges.

She yawned and let the wind take the shawl - it knew who it needed to belong to.

The dragons craned their necks down to look at the smallest dragon that had moved to the craggy peaks recently. It had wings, was jet black with sharp obsidian claws. It sat confidently on its equally small pile of shining treasures.

Though it met all the requirements, they needed to make sure it was actually a dragon.

"Answer us this; did you build your hoard yourself?"

“Caw,” it proclaimed proudly.

They all nodded. Definitely a dragon.

Someday, which I hope is far in the future, I will find myself , or what's left of me, the guest of honour at a funeral. I hope that everyone in attendance will be handed one of my comments made in response to a mastodon report I've had to deal with, to read out loud for the laughs.

If whomever is stuck with planning my eulogy could work it into a drinking game, that would be even better.
