"Vampire or werewolf" really comes down to what version of each and as my dream this morning suggests, I'm much more keen on becoming a witch.

Josh Turek has escalated this. There’s no bill to fawn about greater goods for. He’s made the decision to position trans care to be banned from federal funding while in the same breath talking about how increasing medical access for everyone else. He has classified our needs as somehow inappropriate, and worse did so unprompted.

Now it’s no longer a vote for a greater good, now it’s a vote for a lesser evil. And if it works, if he wins, then there will be even more lesser evils in 2028.

So yeah, I don’t want a Democrat to win in Iowa, a state that every Democratic hopeful will be looking to court starting next year, on the back of the most aggressive anti-trans stance any Democrat has taken for federal statewide office. If you actually do care about trans people, then you should not demand that we sacrifice for a future worse for us, but better for you.

"If Democrats win big, will they learn the right lessons from their victory?"

In a word? No. In several more words? "What, are you new?"

Vote blue no matter who for transphobes but not for socialists or anyone with an Arab name. That’s going too far.

Well, I'm without a debit card for the next several days because of fraud shit.

I am abjectly horrified by reading that phrase and dread finding out the context.

This is why I have been pessimistic about LLM "reverse engineering". The big LLM companies will just do the equivalent of YouTube/Twitch taking down your video/stream when they detect copyrighted music or whatever.

Big companies can slurp up the commons, but you won't be able to return the favor.

It's a special hit to the cynical aspects of my being to see someone from one marginalize group say, very publicly, "Yeah, I was bullied as a kid because of my marginalized status and I'll use my access to power in bullying another marginalized group. Vote for me!"

That's a level of absolute disgusting hypocrisy that deserves to go to the special hell.

Really. You are truly a piece of shit. You've exceeded the expected levels of fecal status and deserve a gold medal for shithead extraordinaire

It's critically important to teach your kids a sport. It will come in handy one day.

Octavia Butler, mid-1990s:

"Imagine a future where food prices are high because of climate change and war, while grocery store shoppers are subjected to invasive surveillance."

Me, shopping in the mid-2020s and being told I have to wait for someone to unlock the toothpaste:

"Wait a minute."

There's a lot of good people who identify with Democrats and desperately hope they will save us. Is it wrong that I would like to be saved, too, and all the other trans people and trans children whose entire lives are at stake, instead of being relegated to the Omelas child?

I'm personally tired of talking to Democrats who insist it's still the liberal civil rights party of 50-60 years ago and every Democrat is a good Democrat and they only want what's best for us.

That's cope. That's not true.

People keep circling this realization year after year when the Democratic "big tent" only seems to include racists and misogynists, but they shy away from it out of fear of Trump and Republicans and all the "crazy" things they will do, which Democrats mostly don't want to stop.

The thing is, Democrats didn't jump on the anti-trans bandwagon because they think it's good politics or will net them a bunch of votes. Even Republicans say it's a losing issue this year. They did it because it was easier than fixing their relationship with voters after 2024. They did it because they wanted to, because a lot of them are anti-abortion, anti-trans bigots.

Josh Turek is hate group embodied in a Democratic candidate. Oh my gods. Yeah, that motherfucker needs to go down.

As far as voting for Turek is concerned, I’ve never actually said to not vote for him. I’ve only talked about what defunding gender affirming care actually means and who it hurts. That discussing a policy he introduced is somehow taken as trans people ratfucking his candidacy reflects just how little allyship seems to matter.

We can’t be so inconsequential for the policy to not matter, but consequential enough that trans people not voting for Turek would single handedly cost him the election.

no matter how sure you are that these guys have broken a whole bunch of laws, you aren't nearly as certain as they are

I'm not even a single issue voter. There's a whole host of things on which Democrats and I disagree. At some point, the covenant breaks and trust evaporates. If Democrats want to be a white conservative party, I don't have to go with them and I refuse to be held hostage and dragged along into supporting Republican Lite.
