@gnomon asks:

Q7. If your provincial premier named Doug Ford was spending ~50 million to rip out installed bike lanes - contra the wishes of BIAs in the areas where they are installed; in the face of significant evidence from his own cabinet that removal will do nothing to improve car traffic but definitely will increase injuries and fatalities; over daily protests with hundreds of cyclists, threatened by *riot police* - which makes the better projectile, tomatoes or cabbages?

(How is best to fight back if a political figure wants to remove bike lanes despite all of the evidence showing that they improve safety of everyone on the road?)

It’s Friday. What horrendous deed will traitor-in-chief try to slide past us this evening?

Trump’s Justice Department filed a preemptive lawsuit to block a possible Democratic win in Alaska’s Senate race.

It’s a dramatic escalation, which comes a month after Trump publicly directed AG Todd Blanche to pursue the matter.

Heather Cox Richardson references this piece from the Washington Post in her letter today. I tracked down the archived version so you can read it too. Not that we need any more evidence, but there’s not one person in this administration who has any competence!

we now have three regulars at the K9 Apple Bar! This one is the newest. she learned from her buddy Conrad, who was taught by Logan, that apples are very tasty. I can barely keep the bar stocked.

Cost of doing business but Cambridge Analytica still haunts Zuckerberg to this day.

"The data doesn’t support the claim that electric vehicle sales stalled in 2026 because Americans don’t want them. Rather, the sales stalled because there weren’t enough EVs available to buy – and there were plenty of hybrids as an alternative.

The distinction matters because automakers have treated a change in the policy landscape as a change in consumer demand, leading to shortages with real costs."

Please help me get the word out to people who might be interested in reading Democracy Americana in German: I hope I can build a readership large enough to carry this experiment of offering my work in two languages (it’s a struggle!).

The malicious and false ad circulating about #AmyActon demonstrates that #VivekRamaswamy has all the things money can buy but none of the things that money cannot buy: good character, ethical values, empathy, kindness. We saw this in the debates and now we have more of the same smirking, nasty stench of misogyny, mendacity, and malice.

I didn’t know it was possible to have tasteless Mexican food. (and yes, I know that “Mexican food” is a horrible term, there are many regions in Mexico)…..bear with me.

Yesterday I ordered empanadas oaxaquena at a new-to-me eatery. I had high hopes based on reviews.

First bite: OK, that was mostly tortilla
Second bite: here’s the chicken and the mole sauce
Third bite: pretty bland
Fourth and subsequent bites: not bland, it’s tasteless. no discernible flavor. nothing at all!
