This morning’s bonus wildlife was the darkest skunk I’ve ever seen. All black except for the tip of its tail and a splash of white on the back of its head and neck. It came by to check for any remaining kibble and then scurried off to get out of the drizzle when it didn’t find any.
When I was young
I heard some enterprising
and engaging captain
say that the future
could be a place wherein
“we work to better ourselves
and the rest of humanity,”
and though I knew
that I might not see that day
I always thought
it was up to each of us to
make it so.
I’ve boosted the news of Sir Patrick’s death because I don’t have anything sensible to say about it. I’m just so damn sad.
TNG was foundational for me. Somehow, my fundamentalist dad loved it so my family watched the whole run in real time.
It was the counter programming that I needed to spot the lie in fundamentalism and move on.
Sir Patrick was at the center of it. And I’m going to miss him.
Our sprinklers are running in the rain, which seems weird, but this is our weekly watering day and the forecast is for up to 0.25 inches of rain - not enough to keep the grass alive.
My XTEINK X4 Pro has been out for delivery since 9:00 AM and now the sun is going down and I don’t have my tiny little backlit reader yet. I wish I had made notes about how the delivery of my last order went. I remember it was weird, but not the specifics.
Does anyone know any not-for-profits or charities who would be interested in hiring a senior ruby on rails engineer? I am based in London but happy to work remotely, or potentially split my time.
I would also be very interested in working on an open source project.
I was tech lead at a health tech in my last position. Have worked in tech for 20 years from systems administrator, to php, to ruby.
Please boost. Please DM me if you have ever worked at the kind of place I am looking for.
Breaking News: scientists say indigo is not really a color, and confess, “It was all a scam to sell more dark blue markers.”
I voted for the first time yesterday after gaining U.S. citizenship six months ago. I proudly presented my brand new passport card, but they asked for my boring old drivers license instead.
Anyway, it felt good to finally have a voice after years of taxation without representation, which is what permanent residence basically is.
Dear fellow citizens, do not take the right to vote for granted. Please go out and use it.
I have voted (early). 29 minutes door to door. Frankly this late in early voting in a non-presidential year it was amazing to have to wait in line, even if only for a few minutes.
Voted a straight Dem ticket, of course.
:boosts_okgay: i'm getting rid of my electric wheelchair. there's nothing wrong with it, it just didn't fit my needs.
it's 3 years old, but has only been used twice.
it's a folding one and although not technically an all terrain one, it is heavy duty and does fine off road.
the joystick is put on the left side, as i'm left handed, but from what i understand it should be fairly easy to change it.
more info about it on here: https://www.mobilityworld.co.uk/products/d09-lightweight-folding-electric-chair?variant=42431010504942
it also comes with a BundleBean wheelchair cosy and organiser bag, both in silver lighting design.
i can't afford to give it away, but i'm selling it for £500 (negociable).
i'm homebound and don't have easy access to a car, so would need to be able to get to me in Edinburgh.
there are also a few steps at both entrances, so you would need to be okay manoeuvring it down those.
DM me if interested

oh this? yeah, my bucket list includes "have an Innsmouth-like experience"
I want to go to a small town and marvel at how ugly everyone is, maybe talk to a drunk
I'm 50/50 on whether or not I need a mob to chase me out of town... for me it's mostly about the gawking.
No, ha ha, that's not why I'm in THIS town, ha ha.

I get it when there are some people who whenever I go for a walk or a run in the morning I see them also out for a walk or a run. More puzzling is the guy who seems to be walking his dog at whatever time of day I go out. That must be the most-walked dog in the world.

Today marks the first day of #AceWeek!
I happen to be asexual and also am one of the co-founders of Plot Warren, a new webnovel and webcomic hosting website with a hard noAI policy!
Doors open Nov 1st but you can get early access via requesting an invite on the site!
Strange sounds at night could be your old home settling, or could be:
- wood goblins
- ghost cats
- attic ghouls
- dust wolves
- the souls of ancient loggers, trapped forever in the swirling wood grain
Kirk made a beeline for the window when he saw Flora this morning. #caturday
Honolulu needs a professional hockey team. Merch sales alone would be in the $ billions.
