tired: the internet was a mistake
wired: the internet is a series of mistakes in a trenchcoat

Take note everyone: if you have awful security news, make sure you release it on the same day somebody else has awefuller security news

computers are not having a good day today, huh.

I'm wondering what people think the chance is that the DOJ's highly inaccurate lists of alleged non-citizen voters was generated with an LLM:

4? That's amazing, I've got the same private key for my luggage!

A lot of cis people still think that HRT medication is something that trans people do for fun, like it's recreational drugs or something.

Instead you should really think about it like insulin for people with diabetes or L-thyroxine for people with thyroid deficiency.

Every time I see a vibe coder say something along the lines of "if you haven't used these tools over the past five minutes, you don't know what they're capable of, because everything's different now!" I get a little bit perplexed.

You do know that we can see the output without using it ourselves, right? Some of us are still reviewing pull requests and reading through code repositories, y’know?

bummed out by how ai lets the greediest people with the worst motives flood the world with sloppy copies of any new digital creation that looks even remotely exploitable

it's been a real buzzkill for my motivation to code, tbh

If I had a nickel for every time an AI bro said "look what I made" and it was just an LLM clone of some existing repo, I'd have more nickels than they ever deserve

So many decades of site reliability engineering yet not one reliable site

And it's not like we ever needed the electrical output of a not-so-small country to make apps and websites before. Only a small percent of tech work is actual rocket science, guys. Learn to code, it's easy, you all said. They are selling you radium water because they've got nothing left to sell and no marketing but FOMO. This is all so friggin foolish :picardfacepalm:

/rant I did not intend to have

The AI industry is committing the largest theft ever and possibly even the worst environmental blow, in a time where the haves already have so much and climate change milestones are just flying by. And the output of it all is so freaking mediocre!

I do not trust the output of these approximation machines to do what you want. I remember that more lines of code does not correlate with better. Fewer engineers with more code streaming by them is the digital equivalent of reducing food safety inspectors from the massive industrial slaughter house.

Vibe coding is the programming equivalent of asking Jesus to take the wheel and drive

This dog loves going for car rides; he gets the back all to himself and the armrests are just the right height for his little legs :neodog_thumbsup:

lol yeah sure, bro, your datacenter sized LLM is going to install itself on a device whose flash size is measured in the megabytes 🙄

fucking stochastic script kiddies, the whole lot of them

A terminal UI is just a GUI where the graphics card is your imagination and the rendering engine is 50 years of accumulated technical debt.
