Hey, so, to the news: "critical infrastructure" means, like, water and roads and electricity, NOT datacentres intended for profit extraction at the expense of everything.

Let me see if I've got this straight.

- Paying a 1% wealth tax is impossible because billionaires have no liquidity
- Elon has half a billion dollars in liquidity available to buy an election

Did I get that right?

The longest running soap opera in the UK had a trans person in it for about 20 years and no one gave a shit.

Fuck JKR

Normal people do not give a shit how people live their lives.

"My eleven-year-old daughter has cancer, and while I love her very much, I am struggling to justify the expense of her chemotherapy when the same money could be used to improve the welfare of tens of millions of farmed shrimp. This is an uncomfortable conclusion, and I want to emphasize that I did not arrive at it lightly …"

A masterpiece of longtermist rightthink! You read. Doubleplusgood rationalism!

I was in a taxi the other day, an electric Toyota, and it was constantly bugging the driver with various “driver safety aids”, like literally a stream of bongs and chimes and sirens. And half of them were “driver inattention! Sit up and look forwards!” He was sitting up and looking forwards, but also he was black, so the car’s interior camera was not registering him properly. But hey, tech is neutral and AI doesn’t encode bias.

Prop 40 is a ONE-TIME retroactive tax.

It applies ONLY to billionaires and would tax just 5% of their wealth — which grew 30% in 2025.

California's billionaires would still be worth $2T+ AFTER the tax.

The revenue will fund healthcare for millions of Californians.

Vote YES.

@blogdiva Related, India has a 38 seat Supreme Court, and mandatory retirement at 65. Cases are heard by varying size panels, so no one can know which bank of justices one will be in front of. Established in 1950 after the adoption of India’s Constitution. Guessing they took some instruction from the moldy and corruptible little Supreme Court the USA hobbles along with, and opted out of that model.

more or less confirms that the PHP exploit on Wednesday was overblown, and contrary to claims it would be exploited in 15 mins, we haven’t even seen one confirmed exploit yet. even proof of concept exploits are incredibly hard to write and deploy.

AI companies were lying. again

I work for the French Social Security. It's one of the few prides I have in life.
For the last 20 years, budget cuts have stripped this beautiful institution to a witch hunt for poor people.

Today my brother went to the ER for sharp stomach aches, 2 years after my dad died of a burst stomach. He waited the whole day but he finally was treated. For free, without question about his insurance.

I believe in the public hospital. In benefits. In public education.
That's why I support today's protests for another direction, for a more humane budget.

So "ID required" laws for social media that compromise everyone's privacy due to data leaks and lock LGBTQ kids out of information have LITERALLY ZERO impact on safety?

I'm gonna name and shame this #infosec LinkedIn freeloader here on Mastodon too.

Writers beware.

Everyone has kind of laughed it off but there’s actually now an official investigation by multiple organizations into why my US election ballot hasn’t been released from US customs in a month without any explanation.

Donald Trump was Donald Drumpf
Ted Cruz was Raphael Edward Cruz
Bobby Jindal was Piyush Amrit Jindal
Nikki Haley was Nimarata Nikki Randhawa
And we still dont' know what the hell JD Vance's real name is

Yet these same people attack Ilhan Omar for running as Ilhan Omar, Dr. Abdul El Sayed for running as Dr. Abdul El Sayed, & Zohran Kwame Mamdani for running as Zohran Kwame Mamdani. MAGAs accuse the left of identity politics because they're ashamed of running on their own identity in politics.

Not sure who needs to know this, but if you download and install the Windows version of Rufus, the free software for writing ISO images to USB/CD-ROM, your PC will end up with about 100 trojans.

Edit: Had a conversation with the maintainer(s) of Rufus, who told me the malware alerts were almost certainly from Windows Defender scanning the files in the Linux ISO I was trying to burn, and not from the program itself. I'm willing to accept that may be the case here, but I also no longer have a way to check b/c I nuked the system after all the alerts, and the bios produced a warning when the system restarted.
