Write your representatives (and representative-elects), remind them that the mandate is to hold Trump and the GOP to account, not to sweep it all under the rug.
And that begins with not electing Hakeem Jeffries or Chuck Schumer into ANY position of leadership.
someone should invent a web search engine that when you type something into the search box it gives you the thing you searched for
going liquid #diet only in 20 minutes, megadoses of laxative in 7h, first ever #colonoscopy in 24h
Nervous about allll those steps. But also curious what #cgm will show about glucose
broken wrist update at 2.5 months:
- almost all pain is gone
- numbness/tingling now at just-detectable level
- grip strength at 45%
- overall function at 75%
- after 30m warmup/exercise can play #guitar somewhat
Still have ~8 #occupationaltherapy sessions left.
Watched #poltergeist #movie for the first time last night.
Not sure what I expected but it sure wasn't that. That movie ramps up FAST. And at the end, I expected a little "it's over...or IS it?" weirdness but instead it just did the entire movie again as a speed run turned up to 11. wtaf.
Tonight is Ghost and Mr Chicken.
back in my early teens in the 80s, my friend's family owned a mom-n-pop #vhs rental place so we watched a LOT of dumb #movies
This week for the first time in 40yrs, I rewatched both #MonsterSquad and #Goonies
Honestly...meh. I should have loved Goonies, but 90% of the dialogue is at TOP VOLUME and exhausting. It's also 20m too long. Die Hard's Special Agent Johnson (no relation) as a Fratelli was incredible, tho.
Monster Squad does NOT hold up for multiple reasons even in just the first 5 minutes. But later a major plot point is photographing a teen girl and using that as blackmail to get her to help. There's not even any attempted justification like that she was mean to them or anything.
It's also painfully clear how hard MS was trying to be Goonies. I couldn't figure out why Dracula would be using sticks of dynamite until we got to the dynamite scenes in Goonies. Frankenstein = Sloth, Horace = Chunk, etc. The mom is *the same actor*.
We're thinking about #transylvania65000 tonight (can't believe that's already a tag!)
My biggest takeaway in this #cybersecurity #emudhra fiasco is that there is apparently no testing process? You can just generate trusted certificates and send them out and there's no process to ensure that it's working right?
We need a Health Department for tech sites.
I started noticing in 2016 that my #spam was leaning #russian
In 2018, I noticed I was getting much more spam more in #election years
What's the likelihood that mere chance has had a week of multiple major #cybersecurity stories immediately precede another election?
Dunno if this is an #adhd moment or a senior moment, but I just called the plumber and gave a landline we haven't had in like a decade. I caught it immediately and tried again but couldn't remember my actual number that I've had for 14 years.
I broke my wrist two months ago and am only now just starting to function normally.
My left grip is about 30% as strong as the right; pinch is about 50%.
There's no longer major pain if I bend too far in any direction, but my range of motion is still limited (80%?) especially if I haven't done my #ot exercises in a while.
I have "excellent" proprioception, so that's a big win. (I've actually done better on every test than the 30yo OT herself, so nyah.)
Dr did say I'd be back to normal "by Christmas" and the OT said I was on track.
We just stayed a couple of nights at a fancy #hotel. (This was a family/friend group paid for by a particular individual.)
$1600/night rooms! $65 steaks! Absolutely VAST 100+ year #architecture! Human-sized fireplaces!
The kind of place where every person remembers you and your details from every previous interaction.
It was pretty fun.
I also had two steaks, both I think for the first time. Filet mignon and wagyu. Both were....well, let's just say I'm not accepting 1/2 inch grocery store sirloin anymore. I think I'm gonna #sousvide some nice cuts next week and see what I get. I'm not sure I can get as much sear as their "1800F oven".
Oh, I guess I also had steak tartare for the first time as well. In fact, I had two--Mrs chickened out.
This project I'm on that I hate has
- 5 #theory #math #datapeople
- 1 excellent electrical #engineer who is only generated #AI slop #javascript #ui
- 1 #software person who knows how to design a non-fragile #system (me)
So naturally I've been attempting to reign in the terrible "every time a new piece of data comes in we'll just" #algorithms by writing all the #code myself
Well. I just realized I'm only on this project 20%. And one of the people generating AI #python thinks he and I should "get on the same page".
Perfect! This is now your project! I'll limit myself to advising.
Our town is having their famous street #festival this weekend. We live within easy walking distance of the closed area so it's really great.
But it looks like they are expanding this year. There are #foodtruck across the street from us!
this could be good and it could be bad....
This is wild - somebody did a deep dive into the real stories behind this famous XKCD:
https://sheets.works/data-viz/holding-up-the-internet
junior #engineering demos code to me where the end result was not as intended
His explanation is that he "assumes" he was given bad input that exactly explains why he got that result
That's bad enough, but the assumption of bad input also just implies a bug in another section of the code sending that input.
There's a bug either way. Come on, man.
The #ai #software #engineering stuff is getting so icky.
I'm 9 years from even the earliest typical #retirement age but my retirement funds are juuust crossing the boundary of feasibility.
My plan is to hang on as long as I can and then throw in the towel. Heck, maybe AI will go the way of #blockchain and #nft before then!
Just had my #glasses lens fall out thanks to a screw that keeps working loose.
Instead of having a special way that glasses have to be taken off that NOBODY EVER DOES, why not just make glasses that can take the forces they meet in the real world?
(inb4 The Jerk)
I get that the lens has to get into the frame hole. But
a. heat shrink fit
b. put screw on the bridge side
c. spot-welding
d. any kind of bistable clip arrangement
are just a few #engineering ideas that leap to mind. Heck, at least put the screw going in *from the top* so it doesn't fall onto the floor!
....the more I think about that clip idea the more I like it. This could be made *very* sleek to not only not fall apart but also trim down the corners. Like a hoop clamp, but with a clip instead of a screw.
I tried The Witness #game on my #linux #thinkpad but the graphics kept breaking.
Now that my daily driver is the #framework, I put #bazzite on the thinkpad.
Game runs flawlessly.
(That said, other games and #steam itself don't fully recognize my 8bit Do Ultimate 2C and fail to work right. It's these constant little things that are keeping the #steammachine on my radar)
