I don't watch much video but I've lately been watching more stuff on Nebula than YouTube. I watch a lot of the same stuff I watch on YouTube but without ads and the creators also omit the meal service and VPN content.
Back on YouTube, The Algorithm keeps pushing AI-generated content, but they sometimes have Seth Meyers. Mostly it feels like YouTube has fewer and fewer videos worth watching.

They put crossword puzzles in the back of all my favorite magazines because that way when I find one laying around the house I can look to see if the crossword puzzle is filled in and that way I know if I have already read that magazine before.

I saw Sir Patrick Stewart deliver a lengthy speech in Parliament Square at the People's March for Europe in 2017. That's the only time I've seen him in real life. Of course he had no notes; why would a giant of the theatre need them?
As well as being a great actor, he was also a prominent human rights and social justice campaigner, whose public causes have included ending domestic violence and supporting LGBTQ+ equality.

Coast Starlight travel being impacted today, southbound train 11 made it through water getting on the tracks somewhere around south bay / San Jose / Salinas, but water has risen 8-10" now and tracks are covered. Northbound train 14 may halt in SLO, where my train now waits to see if we are hauling it back to LA.
It's a beautiful day, no rain, temperate. This is water levels rising and making tides (and waves) reach further. After seeing what's happening in Laguna Beach, I am not surprised. Some of our favorite shoreline places are getting destroyed and submerged.
But hey, I have dinner reservations at 7 in the dining car and can easily do work in my roomette. Which I got for a cheap upgrade bid, and I tell ya am I happy I won it.

Another frustrating day trying to figure out how to pitch my employer to AI companies, so #GetFediHired:
Started an ISP, done codecs & 3d rendering & networked database internals, know a datum from a projection, worried about fractions of a microsecond. Showed that ONNX models should have been simple PCA derived linear systems.

I am reasonably well informed but I'm not a political junky. My intention is to share the fruits of my own research for anyone who may find it helpful. Everything here is in the order on which it is printed on my ballot.

Gonna sound like an old, but... I remember when 15% was a good sit-down restaurant tip, 10% for "meh" service, 20% "I want to impress my date with my generosity".
Having a Square reader ask me to pick between 18%, 22%, or 25% at a coffee kiosk is tip-culture inflation at work.

Foly huck. A small story about LLMs.
For historical reasons, I have a spare cassette for road bikes and it is not compatible with any of my own bikes so I want to sell it. Decided it would be helpful for buyers to include the teeth count of the smallest and largest sprocket in the ad, and was in a lazy Saturday afternoon mood so took a picture, gave that to #chatgpt and asked it to do the counting for me. Answer: 36 teeth.
That sprocket size doesn't exist in the Shimano universe.
So I tried to verify its count by asking it to add an increasing number next to every tooth. It complied, and the numbers ran from 1-36. That pictures is included below. You can stop reading now, look at the picture and count along.
If your ADD is not too bad, you'll notice it skipped 18, so we have 35 teeth. Not 36.
However that also doesn't exist in the Shimano universe.
Being as confused as the average republican, I demanded a #recount! It told me 36 again.
Sigh. Decided to do a manual recount while holding the sprocket in my hand. 28. That is a valid size.
Then I looked at the photo with counts again. Turns out the clanker took my original photo as inspiration, and fabricated a photo of a sprocket with 35 teeth. I am not sure what triggered it to do that and I do not want to know.
Your average #LLM is still as bad at counting as they were a year ago. Maybe worse.
Also, do not invest in that stuff ok?
