revisiting my old "native flora" code (bundled into the flametree package) and god i forgot how finicky this system is to work with. occasionally makes something lovely but so often the balance on the pieces is just... off. painfully similar to growing an actual australian native garden ngl

just... ugh. almost the right thing but also very clearly not the right thing... which is also a pretty good description of every fucking eremophila i have ever grown

"Hey megacorporation controlled, government backdoored random word generation machine, how do I avoid being targeted by government and controlled by megacorporation? Make no mistakes"

KI-generierte Abbildungen von Speisen in der Lieferando-App sind meine neueste Abendunterhaltung.

Hier die Bebilderung einer Pizza in Kindergröße:

People who produce large documents with LLMs seem to frequently be under the impression that the recipient would like to receive a large document

They are pretty much always wrong

Computers were not a mistake.

The Internet was not a mistake.

The mistake was allowing everything to be about money and power rather than community building.

Did I just write almost 5000 words about why generative "AI" should be resisted, going through every single one of my reasons?

Yes. Because I need this article to exist so I can point people to it.

Enjoy and share widely.

someone should invent a search engine where if you put in two keywords it finds pages that have both the keywords

I am a big fan of the Leaflet map API. After all, that is what my GISsurfer uses. Here is an update on the forthcoming Leaflet 2.0 from the man himself - Volodymyr Agafonkin.

Here's my summary of why websites are offline right now, and why nerds are laughing at the number 4.

I've attempted to explain the jargon in use, so those interested but not working in tech have a chance at understanding what's going on.

Yesterday, as I sat here, using a laptop running on Free software written and maintained by volunteers, to connect, by means of a secure tunnel formed by Free software written and maintained by volunteers, to multiple servers, all running Free software written and maintained by volunteers, to apply patches prepared urgently by volunteers to resolve security vulnerabilities, I felt *incredibly* grateful for every single one of those volunteers, who makes the fact that I could do *any* of this possible.

Thank you, genuinely.

Unless you live under a stone, everybody will have heard about PHP today.

Now, please realize that the vast majority of Open Source Software, like PHP, and including PHP, is largely maintained by **unpaid volunteers**.

If you agree that this is inconceivably irresponsible: let this be your call to action and FUND THE OPEN SOURCE PROJECTS YOUR ORGANIZATION RELIES ON.

Saying "Thanks" once in a while is not enough and does not make open source sustainable.

You know what's spooky about radios?

The static.

The static is always there. It's all around you right now, like an omnipresent ghost. Static is the default, and it's going on everywhere, all the time, whether or not you measure it by building a radio to ever notice.

The static only ends when someone pushes organized radio waves out into the air to displace it.

As soon as the signal ends, the static rushes back.

Amazon Threat Intelligence identified a PHP2Shell exploitation attempt on 2026-10-17 in MadPot telemetry, 4 days before public disclosure of CVE-2026-109618 & CVE-2026-109619. It originated from an IP associated w/a commercial anonymization network. While the vuln was under embargo, the targeting of a honeypot from an anonymized IP suggests the activity was conducted by a threat actor, tho it remains unclear how the actor acquired exploit information prior to disclosure.

I learned more about the protests in France from TikTok accounts called “gooning4life” and “Borderlinebitch” than from German news.
