Indonesia is burning, and it's entirely due to our species grossly irresponsible behavior during the entirety of the period what we call "modern industrialized society".
From "Damaged and drained, Indonesia's peatlands go up in smoke" by Mariëtte Le Roux:
"The culprit is mainly industrial-scale plantations for timber, pulp and paper, rice paddies and palm oil, of which Indonesia is the world's biggest producer by far.
To cultivate peatlands, they are drained with canal networks that in Indonesia span about 285,000 kilometers (177,000 miles), according to Pantau Gambut research—seven times the circumference of Earth.
The water runs into rivers or the sea, leaving the dried-out peatlands vulnerable to burning, especially in strong El Niño years that can bring severe drought to Indonesia."

The people in Indonesia geo-engineered the landscape at an industrial scale to make it suitable for huge plantations for just one species: our own. They drained the land and now it's on fire 🔥🔥🔥.
The people in Indonesia are far from the only ones systematically destroying large sections of the biosphere we and all living things depend on to live. This is how we behave everywhere.
