It's Friday! Woohoo!

At some point I will have time to put some new dances together, but for the moment it's variations on a theme.

And hats. Obvs.

As ever, have a good weekend if you possibly can :HumphStomp:

Add this podcast for a splendid double-feature.

(I'm going to have to investigate this Warm Data thing.)

Omg, this is a •completely• different take on being alive right now:

In other news, I can't type to save my life today....

And in other #Enshittification news, when I call the contractor I use for my heat-pump (that I've ALREADY PAID $200 for a service contract for the year), I get "The line is busy. For only 95¢—"

Oh, HELL no. And also WTF? You people don't have •voicemail•??

FUCKING #Microsoft

Word had just started emitting a popup asking me to enable "Connected Experiences" when I go to select stuff from a old, locked Word doc. LOL no.

A brief search suggests the only way to shut this shit down is to deinstall & then reinstall Word.

Yeah, right. If I have to go to those lengths, LibreOffice it is, thanks!

Fucking #Enshittification

Oh, BURN 🔥 😂

Seriously, read the whole thread, & replies. It's glorious.

Apparently, my daughter was given an assignment to use generative #AI to create a poster / cover for A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court in her English class. She took offense to this and asked if she could just do the assignment by hand or digitally using one of her #art apps. She was told no. So, my daughter decided to take a stand and not do the assignment. We support her decision completely. Asking someone who lives for creating her own art to use AI and refusing to accept anything else is inexcusable.

I have done nothing this morning but listen to a public hearing, and I'm now exhausted and can't think.

(Well, after spending most of the first hour trying to convince Zoom that, no, I •wasn't• registered for the meeting on another device. Especially frustrating because I don't even •have• another device.)

I hate technology....

A thing that bothers me about everything from oh the Industrial Revolution onwards is how we believe the only things worth doing are those we can do at scale.

I’m not dismissing modernity. I love my shiny conveniences. I hate how much we devalue every other form of existence. Maybe it gets a couple decades as a trend—think coffee shops and microbrews—but then it gets acquired and subsumed by the at-scale cultural extrusion machinery.

Why aren’t we allowed to have small dreams.

The only thing we have to fear is reality itself

@virtualbri @BlackAzizAnansi Same for me. I alwaye thought it is "us" vs. "them". Turns out a good portion of "us" is, in fact, "them".

@corbden Radio static is ambient light in colors no one can see. True darkness would be spookier.

Like half the men I've worked with have done something sexist, and most of those guys were usually cool
most of the time it was something when they were already mentally taxed and not something they'd have done if they weren't distracted (ie, they're behind schedule, someone needs to take notes from meeting. Make the only woman engineer take notes without examining why they thought that's who should have to take notes, proceed to worry about 5 unrelated things)
It's a UX issue, not a user issue
