New: Proton, the company behind ProtonMail, emailed staff to say it will be 're-interviewing' workers about how they use AI. The implication is, if you're not using AI, or won't learn, you may lose your job. “These re-interviews are consequential,” a leaked email seen by 404 Media reads.

The news from Brazil and Serbia are great and show that you don't defeat the far right by copying it or trying to appeal to their supporters
You do it by being uncompromising, showing the danger they pose and offering something different to the many crises people suffer from

Vučić admits that his party lost the elections in #Serbia to the Student List (a party consisting of students, professors, academics formed in 2025 after the protesters demanded early elections)
😭 Thank God my daughter Aya is safe Today, the university department where she studies was bombed. As a mother, I was terrified of losing my child in an instant
🇵🇸 In Gaza, even going to university can mean risking your life. My home is destroyed, my husband and daughter are injured, and I’m struggling to provide food for my four children
🙏 Please, help me protect my children and put food on our table. Your donation,no matter how small, can make a real difference.

We lost the #internet. In the last decades, what looked like a formidable
glimmer of hope for collective organisation and sharing of universal knowledge progressively turned into a hyper-centralized corporate nightmare of control and surveillance. Whether the “free internet” was a pipe dream in the first place, a PsyOp, or a parenthesis as quickly closed as it has been opened
is not the question here.

Hello! I'm David. I'm a Wikimedian from Chile. I've been editing on and off since 2023, and I got more involved in the backend side of thing this year after learning Wikimania will be hosted in Santiago in 2027. I'm finishing up my undergraduate degree in psychology and I do things mostly on enwiki. Happy to be here! :babyglobe_love:
Happy Pythagorean Theorem Day to all who celebrate! 10² + 24² = 26²! Last one this century.

Temat wraca i będzie wracał:

I just saw this new paper on the arxiv:

Les tribunaux français ont rendu hier une décision défavorable à Quad9 dans une affaire majeure qui porte atteinte à la stabilité de l’Internet. À compter du 24 novembre, Quad9 ne sera plus en mesure d’offrir son service gratuit de cyberprotection aux utilisateurs situés en France.
EU governments have agreed their position on the #DigitalOmnibus on Data, and AI is at the heart of it.
Under the Irish Presidency, the Council has joined a deregulation project built around a dangerous idea: that Europe’s AI ambitions require feeding an ever-growing appetite for data, even if that means weakening rights people already have.

Not to sound overdramatic but with each passing hour I’m getting more and more saddened by the rejection of the DEIB devroom that we proposed at #FOSDEM (an initiative driven by @RosannaSibora and @Gina)
It would have been so powerful to have a DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging) track - to promote the visibility of a different kind of folks in tech AND celebrate them at Europe’s largest open source gathering.
A mini 🧵🥲
Protip:
When designing a user interface, imagine some old woman using it, say Margaret Hamilton, and she's clicking your app's buttons and saying to you, as old people do,
"Young whippersnapper, when I was your age, I sent 24 people to the ACTUAL MOON with my software in 4K of RAM and here I am clicking your button and it takes ten seconds to load a 50 megabyte video ad and then it crashes
I'm not even ANGRY with you, I'm just disappointed."
📣This is your reminder that the fight against #ChatControl is still NOT over yet📣
Last month the negotiations for ChatControl 2.0 failed. Thanks to your support #ChatControl 2.0 and #masssurveillance don't happen🥳
However, the battle is still NOT over yet as the threat remains to keep ChatControl 1.0 as a permanent legislation beyond April 2028😡
Negotiations for this are planned to continue in November which is why we at Tuta will continue our fight ✊

To their crecdit they were very early to adopt the open social web for that very reason:
@bkuhn @copiesofcopies While I appreciate being forthcoming, you are correct, I don't agree with feeding the torment nexus to defeat the torment nexus. I think using Claude is just helping them build more torment nexus, while normalize a situation that puts us in a legally dubious situation where we were previously relatively legally strong, and eroding community trust and shared understanding in the process.
