One of my fave things on Wikipedia is going onto the talk pages for mildly controversial subjects and seeing what kinds of arguments you run into. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=1221860659&title=Talk:Hawaiian_pizza

@capital we are now thinking about pull apart bread programming languages

And yes, some of those are indeed and real vulns, they are a brief flash in the pan.

AI companies are using the exact same human DDoS fascism employs to reduce dissent and then encourage adoption via capturing the managerial class whom hasn't before been affected by neoliberalism.

Tired: "I've thought it over and I'm certain that I'm not #plural."

Wired: "I'm not plural, but my headmate is."

Inspired: "I'm plural, but my headmate isn't."

woke up today and thought it was a sunday so it feels like we decompressed an extra weekend day out of nowhere

this is slop entryism https://orbital.horse/@emma/117497293426466757

:_niss: "i'm not plural, i've considered it and i'm definitely not" - traditional plural proverb

at least they’re honest about where the pipeline ends. I have an idea for how we could optimize out some steps though

someone tried to be like "but now the exploit exists and you can pay for it" as some kind of argument against this and we just blocked them rather than try and argue with someone whose head is so far up their ass that it's coming out of their ass again

once you look past the hype, once your eyes recover from the neon-jizz explosion, once you actually sit the fuck down with the technology at hand, it is always either the nothingest of burgers, or appropriated human work

more or less confirms that the PHP exploit on Wednesday was overblown, and contrary to claims it would be exploited in 15 mins, we haven’t even seen one confirmed exploit yet. even proof of concept exploits are incredibly hard to write and deploy.

AI companies were lying. again

Everyone is at fancy #apple product launches today, and I’m just here duct taping Newtons together like some kind of caveman.

The volume of the calls to "AI all the things" at $PlaceOfWork is becoming deafening.

(To be clear I'm referring to general LLMs/Chatbots - not validated tools (e.g. Alphafold) trained on well curated public datasets for a specific task.)

• Where AI generates hypotheses: These hypotheses still need careful experimental validation, especially if work is clinical or translational. So funding AI at the expense of actual data-generating science (I'm looking at you, UK STFC) is an idiot's game

• Where AI is used to analyse data or find signals in noisy data - you still need to experimentally validate these findings. See first point.

• Maybe you want to generate better AI models, you still need careful curated data to "feed the beast". Training AI on AI slop leads to an ouroboros of shit. See first point.

• Using AI to generate hypotheses doesn't actually enhance your intellectual development as a scientist - You just become the meat avatar of an algorithm trained on stolen data. Development as a scientist (which never stops, btw) allows you to deploy your skills, experience, and intuition* to answer the questions you're asking.

*I see science as a creative endeavour. It's exploration. You shouldn't just blindly follow the whim of your bloated new silicon overlords.
