We try to eat one salad bowl each day.

Time for a late lunch.

Fuuuuuuck. More Apple, Meta, Amazon to join Palantir and Google in Zürich. Rents are never going to come back down. :party_vomit:

Maaaan, 20 years ago I still liked ESR!? 😨

I just found a blog post on my blog where I complain about our printer, a Brother HL-5030. The blog post is over 20 years old. Earlier this year I replaced the ink cartridge. It still works. 🖨️🥰

Using phanpy.social as my fedi client on the phone is working really well for me.

If you have an iPhone, open it in Safari (no other browser as far as I can tell) and use Share > View More … > Save to Home Screen.

Oh nein. Das kann man nicht ungesehn machen. Kohl und Merz, ein Gesicht! #DEPol

A credit section in an article I just leads me to https://www.metaflop.com/modulator -- where you can toy with a font using sliders for fun and profit (maybe).

Simple Sabotage Manual shows up as an inspiration for a piece of art: a projection onto a building in Zürich that is also a reference to "How to Work Better", which is in turn a satirical collection of motivational bullshit.

Work slowly
Overcomplicate the simple
Require everything in writing
Hold meetings instead of emailing
Insist on unattainable perfection
Duplicate files. Misdirect emails
Leak internal data by accident
Doomscroll at work not in bed
Never allow shortcuts
Cry on zoom

Also.
Doing my part.

Is this all the AFD mails from the leak, online, in a Gmail-look-alike web site? Like the Epstein emails??

I can't believe I had to pull a Socrates on a friend of mine, saying that living a good life meant being virtuous and that meant it was on us to try and discover what was good and then to act upon it. To abrogate this was to relinquish something that made us human. Which is why "a lot of people do it" is never a good argument.

I'm still struggling with the memory of that conversation. 😥

Whenever I read about AI, I feel like Gallicolumba. The German name translates to dagger stabbed pigeon.

This thought brought to you by hearing somebody on IRC referring to 2026 as "the year of betrayal".

Holy cow this is disgusting.

Trying to verify that the whole dependency tree is slop-free is a lot of work. Even if you accept the shortcut of "the repo has no CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md and Claude is not a contributor on GitHub."

For my older Oddmuse wiki, written in Perl 5, which can still run as a CGI script, powering Emacs Wiki, for example, I'd say: Oddmuse itself is no slop. The modules required by the script itself are B, CGI, CGI::Carp, File::Glob, List::Util, Encode. They're all part of Perl 5 or have been part of Perl 5 (they removed CGI from core at some point). Of the optional dependencies via require, MIME::Base64 is also part of the Perl core but LWP::UserAgent and XML::RSS are not. Looking at the repositories of Perl, LWP::UserAgent and XML::RSS they seem to be slop free.

Would you agree? Oddmuse seems to be slop free.

The above inspired by Drew's question:

Remember non-slop-coders: Write code such that it can be tested. Avoid global state. Collect all the state you have into a context object and pass that around. I know it hurts but global state will hurt you more when you’re writing tests.

This deep insight brought to you via my blog post:

Amazing news.

Yesterday we saw To the Moon and Back (2026) festuring a Filippina and a Moroccan in the main roles. They want to be astronauts and come to train in Europe. One fails, one succeeds. The prize is spending two weeks in a Swiss bunker on a fake mission. Everything about this is strange. What I loved, however, was the language mix and soundscape in the Filipines.

The feeling when showing somebody how Windows+Shift+S lets you do screenshots on Windows. So good!

That reminds me that one day, not so long ago, we realized that my wife's father doesn't know about Copy & Paste! When we used to copy some stuff, he was amazed! Sadly, I think he has forgotten about it again. He's over eighty so I don't blame him. It does make me wonder how we'll cope with all this digital shit that we've been introducing into the world, ensuring our disablement in the future. Yikes.

Ah...
