I usually don’t have much time for “Tolkien scholars” (which, to be clear, this guy doesn’t claim to be!), just read the books and enjoy them for what they are.
But this is a great article, and well worth a read, on what was left out of PJ’s movies, and how it affected the characters and plot compared to the books.
Notably, this is not just crying about the lack of Tom Bombadil.

Damnit, big European tour for Katatonia next year, but no UK dates 😞
A very detailed shaded map of London, United Kingdom. The full map is 20000 x 20000 pixels with 0.5 m resolution and is available at https://shadedmaps.github.io

I see "Rice Krispies" has joined "Dulux One-Coat" and "Royal Mail Tracked 48" as a thinly-veiled marketing lie.

Collected Fragments 1-24 from The Wilson Heights Gang
Oooo, new Steven Wilson? Don’t mind if I do.
The Overview did nothing for me, so I’m hoping Requiem For A Village is more my bag. I’m not complaining: a lot of Wilson’s appeal is his scatter-gun approach to any sort of musical consistency 😀
terrifying
BBC radio news reader loses the plot 😀

Definitely feel like I should be invoking Elder Gods just by seeing this 😱🐙 #laundryfiles
I’m a big fan of slow, tense SF, and The Andromeda Strain is one of the best.
(But it was also a *massive* influence on the first Resident Evil movie!)

I gave it a go: less than ten minutes to jailbreak it and install a game!
The jailbreak isn’t persistent (you need to reapply it whenever the console’s been powered off, but that takes seconds) and you can’t login to PSN with a JB in place, but other than that it’s smooth as butter.
Amongst many other things, one of the main reasons the Republicans took a drubbing last night is because Trump’s war in Iran has pushed up fuel prices to $4/gallon
For those of you in the UK who don’t want to do the maths, that’s 94p/litre 😳
