I’ve been waiting for this for a while. Purely a “nice to have” in my case but still an instant order for me.
OpenPrintTag upgrade for CORE One/L (and related features) : r/prusa3d https://www.reddit.com/r/prusa3d/comments/1xci8d9/openprinttag_upgrade_for_core_onel_and_related/
So LG is apparently partnering (or something) with Apple for HomeKit devices. After their TVs were fingered for snooping it would be hard to trust them.
Note: LG denies the snooping but the evidence is strong enough to concern me and since there are lots of other chioces of vendors I see no reason to try.
I got access to the new Siri yesterday morning and since then I’ve used it on several tasks. One was product research which it did a fine job with (saved me time and effort). Today I used it for help with Bazzite OS which was equally successful.
It does feel a bit weird having an Apple product do technical tasks related to Linux though.
After hanging out in US customs for awhile and wandering around the US my Hobonichi Techo order arrived. I wanted Akiko Miyakoshi’s cover titled “An Airport at Night” so ordered directly from Hobonichi. Really happy with the cover’s design and quality. Hobonichi included a 3-color pen as well as a charm. I’m ready for you 2027!

Our son gets his driver’s license next week and I want to put a dashcam in the car he’ll use. It seems really hard to figure out which would be best or even good. I had my eye on one from Vantrue but there are complaints aobut it overheating and since we’re in Texas that is a non-starter. On Amazon most have a high percentage of 1 start reviews.
Based on previous devices I had no interest in a foldable phone. However Apple’s Duo peaked my interest. Not that I’ll buy one. It is out of my price range and I have several usability concerns based on the video. Nevertheless hats off to the designers and I hope it is successful.
Tesla’s RoboTaxi service has started here in (parts of) Texas. Two days ago I was surprised when a gold car with large wheels drove by our house. I now know it was one of theirs. The odd thing is we live on a dead end street and it didn’t stop to drop off or pickup a passenger. Some sort of testing maybe.
I have a Logitech MX mouse but hate the LogiOptions+ bloatware required to use it. I recently discovered a very nice open source replacement OpenLogi and it has been great: https://openlogi.org/
The Gen. 2 upgrade for my Prusa Core One+ arrives today so it is time to study the upgrade manual. Reports are it is pretty easy but there are a lot of steps so some advance planning will probably pay off.

Couldn't find a comb and too lazy to get one so I did this.

I bought a Cable Tester because Identifying USB-C cables is nearly impossible since they aren’t labeled with data speed and PD (charging) capacity.
Some cables I thought were USB4/TB4 capable were USB3.2. Identical appearing Anker cables but one was 100W and the other was 65W.
I also went throught my micro USB cables and tossed the remaining ones that didn’t pass data.
This will avoid some frustration because the in past I would try to figure the cable’s capability via trial and error.
When I got up this morning I noticed my desk lamp was flickering periodically. Then saw all lights doing it. I couldn't find a cause so had to call the electric co-op. They showed up in 30 minutes which was impressive and were super cool. They quickly discovered the bolts holding the main wires in the meter box were both lose and it was arcing inside. A bit scary. It took about 30 minutes for them to replace the parts.

I threw caution to the wind and tried installing Bazzite to dual boot with Win11. Everying was going great until time came to restart but it just booted straight to Windows. I tried to boot from the live install USB again to check things over but it wouldn't boot. Tried it on another USB same thing. Tried my tried and true Linux Mint USB and no joy. No errors just a blank screen. No idea what is wrong… Should have listened to my cautious self. Win11 is still ok though.
I'm back home and looked into the remote access to home outage and I'm still pretty clueless. The mini PC running Linux Mint was off cold even though it is on a UPS. The Mac mini on the same UPS was still up. When I unplugged the UPS from AC the PC stayed up. ?!?! Also the mini PC is supposed to start itself back up when power is restored and didn't.
I have a few personal repos on Github, some a number of years old. I’d like to switch to something self-hosted and easy to use and administer. What are the cool kids using these days?

Electricians were doing work at the house today which required cutting off all power so I seized the chance to check RF noise on the bands.
Really not much of interest, which is good. First (possibly left depending on your client) image is with power off, second power on. All bands were similar. Basically boring.

Welp, yesterday's failed TPU print had thrown off some layer strands and the most fragile part of the fan shroud on the MK4s caught one an was damaged. S
o instead of having another go at the TPU print I printed a couple of replacement parts on my Core One+ using PC CF. Gotta love how easily the C1+ handles PC.
Back to TPU on the MK4S tomorrow.

The full plate TPU didn’t go well but could have gone worse. As usual I used blue tape as a separation layer but this time the corners warped. I am not sure if the TPU warping was so strong it over came the tape’s adhesion to the plate or if hours of heat weakened the tape’s adhestion to the bed. Quite possibly a combination of both. In any event the edges of the tape came loose and at the corners the TPU separated from the tape. I’ll have to split the model for my 2nd attempt.
I've used TPU on a number of models but the print I just started is a definite step beyond: 13 hour print that covers the entire PEI sheet. I've had consistently good results with TPU but I’m nervous about this one…
It started like this…
A Unifi Cloud Gateway Fiber model and two U7 Pro XG access points (6 stream WiFi 7).
I 3D printed a vertical stand for one AP and a horizontal stand for the other which really seemed to accentuate the flying saucer vibe.
I was frustrated with the poor WiFi performance of our Synology gear. Finally took the plunge on Unifi and I’m very happy now. Plus the management software is powerful and cool. Like others these 3 devices are not the end of the story.
