One sure way to prove #AI is not alive? If it was, #billionaires wouldn’t be building housing for it…

Sandieglo :

Well, I asked the question, I guess this is the response.

Re: Gizmodo article employing AI/LLM modes to improve upon accuracy of modelling up to 6 weeks, especially extreme events. Though, the article uses Machine Language and AI interchangeably, so it's not really known, specifically, if it's AI or ML that's doing the improvement... it also says AI alone didn't improve the predictions.

A "fun" thing I dug up while writing that I will share:

A 2021 official report from the FAA to Congress showing that reentry casualties (yes, deaths) will become a regular occurrence with the projected number of uncontrolled reentries (which was a LOT fewer than are now planned). The report recommends controlled reentries for all spacecraft. That did not happen: https://www.faa.gov/sites/faa.gov/files/Report_to_Congress_Reentry_Disposal_of_Satellites.pdf

No casualties from reentries yet, but the dice is rolling faster and faster...

1️⃣️2️⃣️3️⃣️4️⃣️. By popular demand Phosh can now automatically submit the unlock PIN, so you can skip the submit button. The length is stored in systemd-homed's user record and can be updated it via phosh-pin-tool until the GUI for PIN changing is in place.  You can use the on-screen keyboard to unlock with arbitrary length should that ever get out of sync.

If you want to help with the remaining GUI bits let us know.

The initial phrog unlock after boot doesn't know about this yet so remember to hit submit there 🙃️.

Much better than destroying them for the benefit of AI

Favourite extraneous funny lines from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

No 1 all time!
Vogon waiting at bus stop when bus travels past: "Aye! You're suppose to stop!"

2nd all time!
Vogon shooting at the president for kidnapping the president, when Trillion points an aerosol can at the presidents head and tells the vogons to stop shooting: "What's going on?"

What's your tops?

Little Nightmares 2 is a gorgeously animated game.

I think it's indie.

Its basically a game where the protagonist is suffering Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, and all the things they feared have exploded in size and monstrosity.

Amazingly fun, side scroller, game, which has its adrenaline scare moments, maybe it's just anxiety.

#NixOs has to be the single greatest #Linux there is. I just realized that I can use the config file nature of NixOS to run multiple flavors of Linux on the same drive with the same user settings! No dual boot. no disk partitioning. no formatting. I Love it! Thank you @nixos_org

I forgot about Donny Pfaster in 'Irresistible'– Haunting and creepy.

And 2 less creepy, horror or thriller, types.
Scully's experience in 'Roadrunners'.
And, not as psychologically intense as 'Normal Again' (Buffy), by still a mind trip, 'Field trip'.

Andromeda in Southern Spring

Explanation: Looking toward the north from Mullion, New South Wales, Australia, the Andromeda Galaxy never gets more than a few degrees above the horizon. During the southern hemisphere spring, Andromeda is highest in the sky around midnight though. And in this telephoto scene from October 10/11, multiple exposures were used to reveal the spiral galaxy in tantalizing detail as it climbed above rolling Australian hills. Also known as M31, the Andromeda Galaxy is one of the brightest objects in the Messier catalog, but is only visible to the unaided eye as a small, faint, fuzzy patch. Digitally tracked and stacked frames were combined with a foreground shot in the deep astro-image composite to reveal the galaxy's greater extent in planet Earth's night. In the springtime night skyscape, the closest large spiral galaxy spans nearly 6 full moons.

New at my Patreon... An interesting development I've noticed in recent years is the evolution of the Melbourne brunch scene to include cafes which provide the standard brunch classics but add a layer of cuisine from another country. A case in point is this cafe which we visited yesterday for breakfast:

A test of my friend Ursula Kurdali's awesome Stop Motion addon for Blender, where Suzanne has a monsterous turn! https://github.com/bkurdali/Stop-Motion-Blender-Addon/tree/extension

Playing with this plugin is an *absolute blast*! Using Stop Motion to insert keyframes gives you a new copy of the mesh, so you can basically do *whatever* with it... sculpt it, grow horns, whatever! I used it to make some extreme deformations.

This analysis is fascinating: it breaks down how when you fill up a petrol car most of the energy never moves it.

Petrol car: 13–21% of the crude oil's energy reaches wheels.

Electric car on today's UK grid: 43–45%.

Electric car on wind+solar: 77–80%.
