I remember when #bitcoin was this new punk thing that was going to be secure, free money from Government control, and not let National borders get in the way. Now you can't buy, sell, or move it without six forms of Govt ID and pay more in "gas" fees than you ever lost in currency FX, and we keep getting news about exchanges and wallets getting hacked. It's sad to see how it has turned out, and how well the establishment constrained it.
Ripley hasn't quite worked out how to be properly work safe, but he's giving it a good go!

2001: I have a new phone. How exciting! Perhaps I can access the Internet on it via a Sharp Zaurus. This is so the future!
2002: Ooh! A new PalmOS device! Amazing! HotSync backup and off we go!
2004: Wow! This WindowsMobile device has a keyboard, as is basically a mini laptop. Cool!
...
2026: I must get a new black slab because security updates have run out on my current black slab which, for all other intents and purposes, is absolutely fine. The new black slab does nothing new for me, and all I see is the chore of setting it up.
Just realized that during the 1929 Stock Market crash, "Out Of Office" took on a whole new meaning.
Slowly recruiting for my Bird Army!
This.
Been using an iPad Pro and pencil for a while and assumed it was state of the art. Used my daughter's Galaxy Tab and s-pen today and ....wow, much as I hate to say it, Samsung have done a really good job.
If you use #Audiobookshelf and want to use it to store ebooks in the same folder, I built this https://github.com/Offbeatmammal/abs-plus-ebook to help manage our setup at home. Hope it helps
Slowly come to realise that the business model I need for my new startup is a non-profit, as my intention is to keep the price as low as I can to actually make it make a difference to the target audience. But that means I need to find a way to pitch to grants bodies and generous people to help scale (and make sure I eat, and can run the infrastructure!)
Why do all the machines in the hospital go "beep" all the time. Silence unless they are alarming would make a lot more sense
Working through the ISO 27001 process on a project for my current primary contract is fascinating. Even if we don't end up going all the way with the process. The questions it is raising about the business and some of what we are building is certainly going to make both more robust. There's some pain, and the cost isn't trivial (even with me discounting my rate significantly for this initial phase as a trial) but there is value in the exercise.
Interesting to hear that the new #Apple #Watch has always-on AI listening capabilities that can produce conversation summaries. I wonder what policies we're going to have to put in place (in work and my volunteering activities) to handle this. Where I live it's legal to record a conversation you are part of, but communicating or publishing a private conversation obtained via a listening device requires the consent of each person recorded.
Sigh, so #Suncorp are finally being folded into #ANZ. I switched to Suncorp after being annoyed once too often by bad service from ANZ so not very happy about this. I am fairly happy with #Up bank, but they're not innovating in the same way they did in the beginning so wondering where I'll end up. Looking for good interest rates without too many 'rules' (long term and instant access), general banking, a credit card, and no nickel & dime transaction charges/fees.
Anyone running #AirNav #adsb software on a #raspberrypi, check your email. They pushed a software update that included some "unauthorized software" and they are recommending you reformat the machine rather than try and uninstall things. I guess I will waste a day on that (and won't reinstall their feeder).
Rather than reinstall a bunch of services, does anyone know of a single feeder app that can push to anyone who wants that data (ideally self contained docker image)

As a cis-het, almost 60, white guy from the UK, I do find it pleasing that probably the two biggest influences on my views on sexuality and tolerance came from exposure to #Prince and #RockyHorror and #TimCurry at a young age (both supported by my, thankfully, bohémien parents).
If I have two #Alexa devices in adjacent rooms and ask the nearest one to do something, why does the music stop playing on the other?
I have even changed the recognition word on one of them, but they still both stop what they're doing.
Really can't be hard for them to work together, identify which one I'm talking to (volume) and only interrupt one of them.
when people sue the police, or a municipal authority, the resulting compensation comes from the taxpayers pockets, with no real impact to those who made the decision that led to that court case.
why do we put up with that? make leadership of these organisations personally liable and responsible for the actions of their people. fines, jail time, real consequences.
watch the behaviour improve and saves a chunk of taxpayer money!
Does anyone know how to remove @allthenticate@bird.makeup from #macOS?
Actually love the idea behind the #allthenticate app, but I have a sneaky suspicion it's the cause of the WindowServer failures that keep restarting my machine ... one click install, but no uninstall/eradicate script that I can track down (and no reply from their support folks).
Of course #Apple seem not to care about WindowServer crashes either, as there's nothing actionable in the dump and they keep happening
