My cat's become a lot more friendly over the years, and seemingly more so when it's cold. Currently, he thinks nothing of walking right between my desk and my face a lot, and is usually satiated by giving him a big hug and pat session. This tends to be on loop, whenever we're both in the same room. It's kind of needy, and sometimes annoying, but I wouldn't want to die without having returned most if not all of his affections.
The thing that is happening right now which is worse than the war in Ukraine is the genocide in Sudan. The piles of murdered children, women and men can be seen from space. It's largely being funded by the UAE. But we hear nothing about this horrific conflict, isn't that mysterious.
Franklin Graham continues to throw his support behind the Beast of Babylon. The MAGA Imperial Cult is down but not out.

The AIs will probably end up ganging up and sending drones after me. lol
Is it too much to hope that the recent “hacks” on large numbers of refrigeration units, might finally lead to people taking security (software updates, and secure non-default auth) seriously?
Like, can we perhaps start recognising that connecting stuff to the Internet also comes with a downside, and with responsibility?
Please?
"On 6 -7 November, join local groups and civil society organisations taking a wide range of creative actions that reflect the diverse reasons people oppose the expansion of AI data centres and imagine the future we want to see. Wherever you are, you can join us and take action. Only by acting together can we shape a digital future that serves people and the planet."
Sam Altman recently argued that scarce RAM would be used more efficiently in centralised data centres.
Someone applied the same logic to billionaire wealth.

Read an interesting quote today, by Joseph Weizenbaum in 1976. He coded Eliza…
"What I had not realized is that extremely short exposure to a relatively simple computer program could induce powerful delusional thinking in quite normal people."
Eliza was a simple piece of software compared to today's AI. 😓

Okay but seriously: how can I even begin to explain to the other cis men in my job how me ending up in stem at my job is a miracle that i made happen.
"Only boys can do math" is a sentence that I heard until high school and mind you i was assigned female at birth*.
When I was scoring a good grade in math it was deemed a stroke of good luck because it couldn't have possible been a skill from me.
I wasn't allowed to learn chess by my parents.
My parents highly emphasised me to pick up "feminine" hobbies. Heck I was even forbidden to befriend boys when I reached age 11.
The majority of undergraduate students in my major were cis men. And I could really feel that they were sometimes even favoured by some of the teaching professors (in comparison to me & the other folks who were either not cis male or not male alltogether).
And then when I entered job interviews after my studies I had been rejected so many times with sentences like "you would be completely overwhelmed if you were to take this job" + I was misgendered every single fucking time in these job interviews except that one time that I succeeded in my job interview (my profiles on these job hunting plazttforms were always male btw and my official first name is really just a plain old male name so like.. there literally was no reason for the people holding my job interviews to misgender me at all, yet they would just call me "Ms").
*it shouldn't matter what I was assigned at birth but i have no better concept to convey the problem of misogyny directly affecting me / my past / even now tbh
#library holds are fucking metal, what do you mean I click a little button that says "yes I would like to read this book" and then little trucks drive all around my city so I can pick up said book at a convenient location close to me???
I am reminded of "if libraries didn't already exist, there's no way we'd get them today". WE MUST PROTECT THEM AT ALL COSTS
today feels like a good day to ask if anyone has any upcoming gigs or releases in the #electronicMusic or #experimentalMusic genres that they would like me to share details of in the next email newsletter?
It'll go out 11.11.
Just drop me a message or email thisoccasionalsociety@ikmail.com

There is behind the multiplicity
of events and creatures in this
universe simply one energy and
it appears as you, and everything
is it.
The practice of Zen is to
understand that one energy
so as to "feel it in your bones."

Every now and then Big Tech will shoot themselves in the foot and send waves of disappointed users our way. Yesterday was one of these days, as Google doubled down on their efforts to force AI down everyone's throats — this time school students.
So if you're a teacher, a school administrator, or know anyone on any school boards, anywhere in the world...would you kindly let them know that there is an independent European alternative with no AI? We'd love to talk!
This is as good a day as ever to delete your Twitter and never go back to that shit hole.
An important tangent that should be more than just a tangent is the extraordinary number of women who won across the board last night, (13 governorships plus more in Congress and down ballot) striking back hard at all of this impotent MAGA masculinity bullshit. #politics
