🚨 Apple to Begin Scanning Publicly Shared iCloud Photos and Files for Harmful Content
Apple has announced plans to begin scanning publicly shared iCloud content with the release of iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3, and visionOS 27.3, expected in December 2026.
The new policy applies to photos and files shared through iCloud Photos and iCloud Drive using the "Anyone with the Link" option. Apple confirmed that content shared this way will be accessible to the company for inspection and will no longer be protected by end-to-end encryption, even when Advanced Data Protection is enabled.
Apple has not specified exactly what qualifies as harmful content or whether previously created public links will be scanned.
Under the updated policy, Apple may remove or delete flagged material, suspend accounts, prevent users from creating new accounts, or involve law enforcement when necessary.
The change is limited to publicly accessible sharing links and does not mean Apple will begin scanning all privately stored iCloud files.
