Not the only thing I did today :)

Years ago I worked on Sun workstations, with bigass B&W CRT monitors, and I made a little collection of monochrome bitmaps to use as tiled backgrounds.
Later on I got color displays (probably on linux by then) then I kept using them setting fg and bg color for a nice calming green-tinted desktop.
Back to using Linux as my desktop environment and I still have all those little bitmaps around. No longer using straight X but this can still work.
Silly two-line script is here if anyone cares.... https://github.com/14mission/tools/blob/main/setbg.sh
(This might be specific to Mint).

They were cool.
First of all lots of different hobbies.
Trains, R/C cars and boats, really random model kits (like silly 50s scifi spaceships), dollhouses, cross-stitching, beads, general crafts, you name it.
And they they had a ton of old stock around. I picked up some #modeltrain layout building kits from companies I don't think have existed in decades. And lots of neat little cast metal detail parts from makers I remembered from building models as a kid and hadn't seen since.

They were cool.
First of all a big variety; trains,

I was looking for some glue and found this one.
The Hobby House has been gone a couple years. I miss those guys.
During the 2020 lockdown, they did walkup sales at their door. Couldn't browse, but if you needed glue or paint or something you could describe, you could get it.

Saw some bigass pumpkins, as expected. Also the HMB HS band played, and they sound pretty good.
Only took film pics, so you guys have to wait a bit to see them :)
Afterwards we (my son & I) went down to Pescadero and paddled around the marsh with folding kayaks (Tucktec).
You're allowed to do that, but only seasonally, and the season is the chillier times of year. So basically it's late fall or early spring, unless you're a real die-hard and don't mind boating in cold weather.
They also make no particular effort to make it *easy* to get a boat into the water. There's an official "boat launch" area but it's overgrown, with poison oak no less. So if you want to do it, you pretty much have to lug a boat about half a mile along a highway. These folding boats have shoulder straps and are made for this sort of situation, so it works out.

SFBA residents have all probably heard of the HMB pumpkin festival. It's just a thing to get tourists to spend money. The HMB pumpkin weigh-off is separate. It's a fun thing almost only locals go to. It's happening today. About to head over the hill to have a look at this year's megapumpkins. Probably just going to see the tail end of it, 'cause farmers are early risers.

I should have asked about this one.

A real oldie. There were a few others of this vintage under cover, and apparently drivable, though not looking much better than this.

This is a cutdown #SFMuni Mack. It used to run up Telegraph Hill to Coit Tower. There were 3 of these and this is the last one left.

Here's some info about Muni Macks: https://www.streetcarmike.com/muni_mack.html (including a picture of this bus in service).

In Williams, CA, there's a "bus graveyard". The owner was around and I chatted a bit. If you have a really old bus, this is the place to find parts for it.

Ok, planned burn, not wildfire. Good. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/angel-island-prescribed-burn-redo-stinks-up-downtown-san-francisco/ar-AA2cQvEz

Looks like there's a fire on #AngelIsland.

DId not make it to #SFMuni History Weekend proper, but got a peek at the Geneva Barn later last night.

This weekend is #SFMuni Heritage Weekend. It's fun but bittersweet because I just learned that an old friend, a former #FLine motorman, scholar, and transit photographer, that I used to see annually at these, passed on in July.

At least last year, I bought a copy of his book and he signed it for me.

RIP Peter, aka "Milantram".

Back from a short nocturnal bike ride and I'm sweaty, which is not normal in the SFBA.

Another #3ds 3d picture. #SFMuni

I haven't been doing so much film lately, but I didn't want to miss out on #shittyCameraChallenge. So here's a #3d picture of my cat Chompsky taken with a #3DS. #stereoscopy #stereography
