all you have to do to have your opinion on KDE heard is poison some black neighborhoods

its funny (not funny) that people who think prompting claude is a real contribution to anything are telling "non-contributors" that their opinions don't matter

i don't want to have an "immersive experience" in the same way i do not want to download your free app

glad this isn't my job anymore lmao

logged into the university slack again after a few months to see if there was anything new and it seems that the perfectly fine paper i wrote based on a student's thesis got rejected for a *third* time this time from a workshop lol

it's not the greatest paper ever but it's kind of ridiculous how difficult it is to get mildly interesting concept paper published... anywhere at all.

software could be so much better but everything is so corporatized that it's extremely difficult to even conceive of the problems caused by that or the paradigms that may exist outside of that. not even academia seems interested in discussing alternatives.

i feel like the current state of the software industry has made it basically impossible to actually have legitimate discussions about the shit that's bad about software today and to move forward in a good way.

but idk i think im just getting way too frustrated from being online too much and stuff irl being a bit shit rn. i should log off and go touch grass.

thinking about the project i found which did something i needed and it was just a mildly overcomplicated python script i could run once and be done with it

anyway the person making it decided to make a "2.0" version which involved slopcoding up a completely new thing from scratch. its now a node.js server application you have to run on a server and then access by web and its ui is so godawful it took me literally half an hour to figure out how to do the literal only thing this application does.

osrs music my beloved

i think everything wrong with this class of liberal academic is encapsulated by the surely hundreds of completely identical interviews given to middle-aged white guys discussing why it is good that we're getting rid of woke and that it was never very rational anyway

man im so fucking sick of the "progressive" liberal intellectual magazine interviewee type of guy

dominator of the 'public discourse' for many decades, always on the right side of history, confident that they're absolutely right this time even when they're gleefully deriding the ideas they held thirty years ago as wrong and dogmatic

boosting posts from long-dead instances is weird. i guess it only shows up for instances old enough to still have that post cached, which i imagine can't be many of them.

a nice thing about journaling is that its also just an excuse to write on paper which i otherwise never do anymore

Tolkien saying in a foreword that the only self-criticism he will admit to is that he thinks the book is too short is hilarious

its honestly quite unfair to preface Lord Of The Rings with two dozen pages detailing the history of the text itself because it makes me want to go read about that history instead of the actual book

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

except for Bohemian Rhapsody. bohemian rhapsody can stay

wishing the national top 2000 music of all time list wasn't so biased towards classic rock lmao

scala has tuples. great. everyone loves a good tuple.

scala also has a neat notation for addings things to a map, like map + key -> value.

this does not work with tuples for whatever reason. have fun

scala consistently feels like a language that's too clever for its own good and leaves you with the issues that causes
