Our users asked many questions about Chat Control, as discussions were restarted in the EU this week.
SimpleX Chat is an open-source app where users control the code and the servers they use.
Therefore it is impossible to implement any client-side scanning, and it will not happen. (1/2)
If the law is passed, two options are possible:
- we might need to stop offering preset servers to the EU users.
- we will not need to change anything - this is the most likely outcome.
Our operations are always consistent with our Privacy Policy (https://simplex.chat/privacy), and we would rather shut down than do anything that contradicts this agreement with our users. (2/2)

@simplex What do you mean by "restarted this week"? Do you mean there's a possibility that the victory against the obligation to scan all our conversation may be soon wiped out?
@Stem the new proposal is again on the table on November 12.
We now see that on November 15 the requirements to scan were removed.
Either way, our opinion is that this law is most likely irrelevant to SimpleX network servers.
But if the law is passed, we will publish the results of legal review.
