Just a side remark from some internet dude: Seems odd to force someone to give up his identity/privacy/anonimity for an app exactly aiming for this.

@KoosPol why should they give up their identity?

This feature allows group admins to talk to the prospective members before admitting them to the group. Helps against spammers / trolls.

What other is the purpose? For all intents and purposes its an informal way of 2FA: the prospect member has to explain himself.
I understand the troller argument, I still think its odd. Also, how could you possibly trust the responses to the interview?

But please, this is just some remark from your favorite armchair philosopher. I like chewing on such topics. Don't worry about me too much 😉

@KoosPol It's an interesting argument, but ultimately it's the group owners' decision who to provide access to and to trust.

A simple interview style admission is rather common in social media groups that are attacked - Facebook has the same feature - and users were asking for knocking for quite some time.

Everything that adds friction to spam and trolling reduces them, and as these attacks come in waves, group owners can enable "knocking" only during the attack - like raising a drawbridge.

@simplex been using SimpleX Chat 2 years.
    Its my primary app.
I spammed Reddit with links to it before quitting reddit recently due to the face ID rollout.
And spammed links to Briar & Mastodon, also. :tinking:
