@Brad_Rosenheim - I am very much with @sundogplanets on the abuse of space around earth, So much is being done with a scandalous disregard for any consequences by people with more money than sense.
@futurebird the UK has just changed its prime minister. Apparently one of a new PM's first jobs is to write instructions for the commanders of the nuclear submarines on what they should do in the event that there is a nuclear war and London is destroyed.
The idea that a PM would instruct them to destroy other nations has always disgusted me. How could anyone promote "mutually assured destruction"? Sickening.
There is no going back to the status quo ante - the glaciers and ice caps won't refreeze, the ocean circulation will be different, weather systems will bring rain where there was drought and deserts where there was rain. We are only just at the beginning of seeing the consequences of our actions. 2/2
Someone correct me if I am wrong. Increasingly I am hearing that we can simply aim for "Net Zero" as though as long as we stop emitting greenhouse gases everything will be fine. As I see it, the first problem with this is that climate forcing will continue for centuries with the CO2 already there - it doesn't simply stop. The second it that when a chaotic system like global weather is perturbed it will settle into a different stable state even if the perturbation is removed. 1/2
Potentially controversial question: what are some of the most polished pieces of software? In what sense of 'polished' are they so polished?
AI is powered by the tears of anguish from future generations of children.
Did you know that having "Bombing kids is not self defense" on your t-shirt is "offensive" and can get you kicked off a United Airlines flight?
Me neither.

Okay, I think that it is unrealistic for me to try to merely reduce chocolate intake, but I can stop entirely... briefly. I lack the willpower/motivation to ration if it is conveniently available.
I eat between five and six kilos a year of 50% - 90% dark chocolate
Can we all stop using and recommending peat based composts please?
It takes so long to make, peat is a non renewable source
It does far more good storing carbon in the ground in situ than it ever will do in a garden, yes, even for growing food.
I’ve just seen a website recommending using peat based compost😭
Peat was introduced as a cheaper filler for compost mixes within the lifetime of people alive today. It was not always used. We can switch away
I love this quote. It highlights the absurdity at the heart of our society.
Under capitalism, it's very normal to let children go hungry, let banks force people out of their homes, let sick people die for lack of access to healthcare. But the idea that billionaires could just be less rich, not poor, not struggling, just less rich, is considered insane.
Do no harm. Do Good. Love.
Why is trying to decrease risk to others a bad thing?
Why is apathy or disregard for others a goal?
How will we survive this way?
"Why is kindness Revolutionary?"
